Modern european History

Is this book really that good and what other book besides this one would you guys suggest/

PR’s Cracking AP European History Exam and REA’s really helped me.

I liked cliffnotes, but I had the opportunity to study from PR, REA and Modern European History at various points during the year and I don’t think any of them are a bad choice, I’d recommend going to the bookstore, reading a section from each and deciding which style suits you best.

Modern European History is mostly good for political history. I actually recommend The Norton History of Modern Europe, which is not a study guide but a text in several volumes. It’s a quick read. As for study guides, I like Princeton Review, because they put everything in context with everything else.

One question: is Modern European History centered arount the AP exam, or is it just about Europe?

I used both MEH and PR last year. I read through MEH about twice (not even the new one which starts at the Protestant Revolution, but the old one which starts at like 1600), and PR once. MEH was definitely more helpful to me than PR, and I owe my 5 to it. Its format is comparable to AMSCO for AP US, if you are familiar with that book (although I don’t think MEH has any practice questions). I also think MEH does a good job of covering non-political history, as it has chapters devoted to cultural movements, literature, etc.

If you need practice tests, you can always find a few released ones online.
