I was completley convinced that Columbia offered a "Modern Languages" major (I read about a graduate in a newspaper), which was my main incentive for applying. But when i looked at the website it appears taht no such major is offered. Does anyone know?

You can major in each of several modern languages, but I don't know that any college offers a modern languages major.

I've never heard of such a thing. People who take many languages usually major in Comparative Literature, though the Linguistics major was recently reestablished for that purpose as well.

hmm, i don't think there is a linguistics major... just a "special concentration" which has to be completed along with another major.

I've run into the term "modern languages" as a major in Canadian university websites, and I'm pretty sure it is used in Europe as well. Each school defines which languages it includes differently, but in Canada, they always include French. The term doesn't seem as common in the U.S.
