I'm not going to toot my own horn here. I will admit perhaps I am ambitious, but on paper I'm not as smart as others who have posted here. I do poorly on standardized tests, therefore I truly don't believe that these test accurately represent my capabilities nonetheless they will have an impact on where I go.

I am currently a sophomore looking to transfer to an undergraduate business school. I came from a graduating class of 224 graduated in the top 8% of my class. Had a high school gpa of 3.4# and current college gpa of 3.77 I scored a 1650 on the SATs. Math being my strongest section.

I am from Central New Jersey of Hispanic heritage both of my parents migrated here from South America about 25 years ago. I am from a below middle-class family. Household income: ~45,000. My sister attended Syracuse for her undergraduate.

I've had a very humbling experience living the life I have. I want to achieve as much as I can with my life and transferring is the option I seek.

I'm currently attending a small private college near home I commute ~30 mins each way to and from school.

Please help to composite a list of schools that I could be competitive for, safe, and reach schools as well. Thank you very much for any and all Help

The issue with transferring is that unless you get into a college that meets full need, you’re not likely to get much (if any) financial aid. Big merit awards generally only go to freshman applicants. What is your financial package at your current college, and can you be sure that you can afford to attend a different school that may not be as generous? If you’re commuting now, can you afford to attend a college away from home?

Also, if you don’t even have the faintest of ideas where you want to transfer to, you really shouldn’t be transferring. Asking random people on an Internet forum where you should go is a poor way to select a college.

Last year at my current college I received a full ride. This year because my sister no longer counts as a dependent I had to pay $600 a semester so in total $1200 out of pocket. For more expensive schools I don’t think I would mind too much the cost because I would just take loans out for the two years if necessary. I just want a quality education.

I do have a familiarization with good business schools, but I feel that with my current qualifications they would generally be all reach schools and that’s just not good. Like I said I’m rather ambitious and I would rather other people tell me where to look because they can be more honest with me than I could be with myself.

You cannot borrow more than $7,500 per year from the Stafford Loan program as a junior and senior. That is not even enough to cover half of OOS tuition and fees at top public universities, much less living expenses - and major private universities are even more expensive.

Any loans beyond that amount would have to be either PLUS loans - directly signed for by your parents - or private loans, which require a creditworthy co-signer willing to assume the debt in the event that you fail to pay back the loans for any reason. Are your parents willing to take out PLUS loans or do you have a co-signer willing to back your loans? If not, then you can borrow $7,500 and that’s it.

Both options, if even feasible, would result in you incurring a significant amount of student debt, while your situation right now would result in little to no student debt. That is a highly desirable situation which, in my opinion, you would be silly to give up.

If you are really set on transferring and giving up a nearly-full-ride, I would recommend you look first at Rutgers and TCNJ, because as an in-state student, those schools are likely to be relatively affordable.

I was looking at both schools considering how close my they were especially Rutgers- new Brunswick I’m only about 20 minutes from there. I wouldn’t want to get my parents in debt in the end its my responsibility. At this point I guess considering where I am at Rutger’s is my best option.
