modifiers help

ive been looking over sparknotes sat review, and they provide contradictory commentary concerning modifiers. please help!

for one of the examples, this answer is "correct"

Due to their bargain price, Marcel snatched up the designer jeans.
according to sparknotes, "their bargain price" correctly modifies designer jeans, even though i disagree. i thought that in this example, marcel is being modified.

however, later on, in a parallel situation, sparknotes says something else...

Due to its furry coat and ducklike bill, zoologists failed for decades to accurately classify the platypus.
according to sparknotes, this sentence is wrong because "its furry coat and ducklike bill" incorrectly modifies zoologists. however, in the previous example, isn't it the same thing, but sparknotes says its right?

please explain whether the modifiers are right or wrong? thanks!

bump please i really need help!

Both sentences are incorrect for the same reason: the pronouns modify the wrong nouns. Keep in mind that SparkNotes does not have good study guides for the SAT. It makes a lot of mistakes.
