I also think what color to wear is changing. Young people don’t have “rules” as to what color to wear or what is an appropriate gift. I think as long as you don’t wear white anything goes. At least this has been my experience on the west coast.
I’m one of the ones who wore the Alex Evening dress…and really, it doesn’t wrinkle at all. In addition, it was very comfy!
And DDs wedding started at 4. I didn’t think I sparkled too much at all.
MOB has found another dress. This makes no. 5. I think she is staying with this one. She’s running out of time to keep buying!
I’ll be happy if f can find one, let alone 5! Hope it is not causing too much drama for you. What do you think this has been about? Did she actually announce 4 other dresses to her daughter and possibly to you?
No drama to me at all. She cracks me up!
I’ve seen all the dresses. All lovely but different. Today’s dress is $50 on Poshmark, so it’s not like she’s breaking the bank. She is much more willing to roll the dice on online bargains than I am. So she sees something and snaps it up. She knew she wanted long, and she’s not a fussy person. She bought two solid velvet dresses, both sleeveless and then she had a crisis of confidence about her arms. She ended up giving one of those dresses to her SIL, who is tall and thin and really athletic. I was there when she tried it on, and the aunt looked great. MOB has gained some weight thanks to menopause and Covid so I think she’s self-conscious even though she still has a terrific figure. The dress she had settled on was a classic cut but really blingy. It’s an outdoor afternoon wedding so I think she began to think it was a little too extra, especially after seeing mine, which is a solid, 3/4 sleeve wrap dress with a slit. Not blingy at all. So the new one is a solid dark blue with off the shoulder sleeves. I really love it. I’ll post a link if I can find it again.
Great to hear all has gone so well wth the dresses and that there has been no drama! Have a wonderful wedding!
We’re going to a wedding on Saturday (local, son of colleague, H doesn’t want to go alone). Only going for the ceremony, not cocktail hour, dinner/reception (yes, hosts know our situation). It’s indoors, masks required. I’m double masking, and eating is not happening.
Am going to wear something I already have, with a sweater. We’ll be there all of 30-45 minutes, and I don’t have dressy stuff that fits me, anyway. Need to see if I have any shoes. Won’t be wearing heels, as I’m using a walking stick and will have to walk a few blocks from the parking garage.
Original poster checking in- after ordering countless dresses I’ve decided on this dress in navy.

@mom60 — what a classic, elegant choice! As a bonus you will likely be able to comfortably wear it fit other events after your child’s wedding. Congratulations again!
Love it! It’s along the lines of the style I wore at D’s wedding, and I really liked it.
Love it. Similar to the dress I got for ds1’s wedding in November. Wrap dress in purple but with 3/4 sleeves.
I think navy is very hot now for dressy wear - very nice chioce
That’s a terrific dress!!
Great choice! The fabric is low maintenance, and the dress looks terrific!
Love the dress!
mom60 - gorgeous dress!! Elegant and I bet the navy will be stunning. Enjoy!!
Love it!! Excellent choice!
Love the dress! Really like it in the garnet color too.
Yes, the garnet is beautiful, too. It looks like it also comes in this other shade of blue (for those looking for a gown):

Or pink! Apparently the lighter colors have a different name and wrap the opposite side.
