Have to say… based on what I see on Macy’s site, RL did not succumb to the shapeless potato sack trend. Lots of classic dresses that are flattering for all sorts of figures, big and small.
I tried the garnet and it’s a nice color and one that works with my skin tone. If I had ordered the same size as the navy I might have considered the garnet. I look good in navy and and it was a flattering fit. I was happy with the fabric quality of most of the RL dresses I tried. I would have been willing to spend more on the dress but at the end of the search the RL was the best option. On the other hand I tried a Alex Evenings jersey dress and the fabric was thin and felt cheap. I am not normally a fan of Macy’s but in this search they had the best selection and some of the fastest ship time. They also shipped the dresses nicely. Some of the companies just stuffed the dresses in bagged mailers.
That is my experience with the stuff Macy’s ships. It is packaged nicely! Based on the looks of their messy retail stores, I would not expect that.
Back from my daughter’s wedding weekend, which was AMAZING!
I wanted to edit my opinion on wearing a red dress to a wedding - my daughter’s husband’s brother’s girlfriend (got that?) wore a gorgeous red dress to the wedding. It was the perfect darker shade of fall red to match the beautiful fall setting of the wedding. It was not short or low cut or suggestive in any way - it was long & flowy and age-appropriate for a 21 year-old. She had one of the best dresses of the night. So in certain cases, I’m ok with red
momofmab - congrats on your daughter’s wedding! Any chance you’d have a picture (from the web) of a similar dress (to the red one that was so pretty and appropriate)? Your description so evocative -now curious!
Thank you!
I don’t know who made the dress but it was very flowy, 3/4 bell sleeves and an empire waist. Very flattering!
So glad you had a nice wedding! Ha, I’m still waiting for my son to find a venue for 2022 and set a date. And of course once I know the details there will be nice links here for me to look for MOG dress.
I wish I had a Christmas wedding to attend

I like the way Hill House shows the dress on models of different sizes - though I’d prefer it if they weren’t both 5’-10"! That’s a shade of red that would be fine at any wedding I think.
Pretty! And, comfy looking!
I like the dress. The burgundy color is lovely for fall. I don’t really even consider it a “red dress”.
This one has short sleeves but comes in petite sizes. Such pretty holiday dresses. Of course I have no where to wear a dress like this.

Lovely dresses. I’m also another person who has nowhere to wear anything dressy as we rarely go anywhere other than to market and medical appts.
Those are both pretty @deb922 . You need to buy something velour!!!
That first one - would you wear it shoulders up or shoulders down??
I like that second one too, deb922! Such a lovely color. And great that they show it on models of disparate sizes. It looks so nice on both!
I would always wear shoulders up but that’s because I don’t care for the feeling of shoulders down
I wore these shoes as mom of bride. They were very comfortable and I was able to wear them all day and into the night.
I wore a similar style. Our wedding ceremony was outside and I needed something that wouldn’t sink into the ground
Not a mom of the bride yet, but I need advice for a formal Christmas event. I found the dress below at Macy’s today on sale and it looks really good on me in a size 8.

What color shoes should I wear? Do I wear black or could I do silver? Party is in the evening at a friend’s home and will be both indoors and outdoors (Southern California) . I will need to wear heels since the dress is long. Thank you for your suggestions.
I’m partial to silver for festive occasions. Black when I don’t want people to notice that I don’t wear heels.
