Mom of bride or groom dress suggestions 2021-2022

I forgot we could post pics. Here are the shoes I wore at ds1’s wedding. This is from his graduation in May. They are Naturalizers, of all things! Super comfy.

I wore these for my daughter’s outdoor wedding. They have quite a few low heel options.

@TatinG My son’s wedding in May is also a late afternoon(5pm) garden wedding , at a country inn, cocktail attire. I’m pretty sure I’ll be returning the Alex Evenings dress I ordered because I’m thinking it is not the best fit for that setting. More sequins on top than I would like. Don’t want heavy beading either.

I have not yet totally ruled out a floral as my daughter in law is fine with floral. And a friend ended up liking the only floral of 5 dresses I showed her the best. Go figure! There is info out there(including a recent article from Martha Stewart) about florals being a very good choice for mothers for a spring wedding). So, I remain very confused about what would be best!

I just saw a new spring dress come up on Dillard’s yesterday, the Alex Marie Hayden dress, which comes in 4 different colors (although 1 is black , which I definitely would not want)

Good luck with shoe shopping, @rockymtnhigh2
Looking forward to seeing some of the dresses other mothers are looking at!

I really really think you should go with floral! It’s clear from the start that you are drawn to floral dresses - and you have your DIL’s blessing.

It’s your FAMILYS wedding - not your guests or your CC buddies.. If a floral dress puts the biggest smile on your face and makes your feel great - then floral it should be!

I’m a big believer in ballet flats, but I could totally get into sparkly sneakers. I’m pretty sure no one is looking at my feet. I broke my toe years ago and really can’t wear heels at all.

I’m another one who cannot wear ballet flats. Haven’t owned a pair in years. Sneakers have come a long way!!!

@sevmom I really like the Cecily dress in the correct size although not a fan of the fit of the sleeve. I will have the sleeves altered to be more tapered and form fitted to my arm. With that I think this might be the one. Tried it in with my husbands mothers string of pearls and Pearl earrings. Now just to figure out shoes!!

That is wonderful, @bhs1978 ! I really liked the Cecily dress , just the fit didn’t work for me. It sounds perfect for you once you have the sleeves altered ! And a great choice for a fall wedding.

Thanks @sevmom. I know you will have the perfect dress and as someone said above I believe it’s going to be the floral one you love. Beautiful for a garden wedding. Luckily one of my best friends does wedding alterations so she is going to do the sleeves and also help with my future daughter in laws alterations.

Which was the Cecily dress? Can you relink it?

The link says it runs large when in actuality it ran small.

That is a lovely dress and the sleeves should be a simple and inexpensive fix.

@bhs1978 It ran small for me too when I tried it on in November. But I thought it was an elegant, well made dress and navy will be perfect for a fall wedding. So glad you found your dress!

After deciding that I better find another dress for upcoming weddings in May - I found two (both navy cocktail length) on sale at Nordstrom, total price $155. Will see how they fit and my other unworn special occasion dresses (1 worn once and two purchased for wedding attire and not worn yet) - we have 3 weddings to attend on 3 consecutive May weekends – Madison WI, near Akron OH, and Boston. We are doing a driving trip. After I try on all the dresses, then figure out if I have shoes or need shoes. Will have DH try on his best fitting suit and see if his extra few pounds has affected fit. Will do more road trip planning with discussions with DH. Hope after my fitting, I can figure out if i have the right dresses. The two dresses just ordered are to arrive I believe by 2-22 or so.

The two dresses came and they are BEAUTIFUL. I also have 2 very beautiful dresses I have not worn yet. Will try them on and also will start swimming so between now and then I will have a body where the dresses will flow loosely on me! Now figuring out about shoes - looking now! I need two different shoes/sandals - one for navy dresses, and one for a platinum/silver beaded/net/rose flowers in material swirls throughout the full length dress. Friend also told me about Nordstrom overstock but I have to text her for the exact name to look.j

Anyone who has good sites for looking for shoes, I am open to on line suggestions for looking. Two of the navy dresses have silver embellishments so silver decorated shoes/sandals will work!
