I got one pair via Macy’s - they are good for one of the long dresses. Silver, flat. Not dressy enough for a shorter dress. I also got a high low dress at a good price and it said ‘low inventory’ so I purchased that dress; I have the shoes to go with it already.
In addition to Nordstrom and NordstromRack, I will look on Bloomingdale.
Sales are very enticing.
Will also look at Dillards and Belk.
We have a nearby DSW.
Enjoying the shopping.
As soon as I finish trying on all my dresses, it will have me starting my swimming and dieting - I want the dresses to fall loosely and elegantly. I get into a daily pattern – and can also do clear liquid dieting (I did 4 days before colonoscopy and once one gets past a certain point it goes OK). I have only been this bigger weight since after cancer, then working 2nd/3rd shift for last 5 years with late meals and too many carbs. I bounced up to full pregnancy weight immediately with the IV chemo and drugs - I think the extra weight was a body protective mechanism, and I certainly survived the aggressive stage III cancer - so no complaints!
So I got a nice looking low heel champagne colored shoe at Nordstrom “Paradox London Pink Helice Mesh Sandal” - they have a pretty good number of stylish shoes under $100. And my shopper DD liked them! I believe this shoe will go with the rest of the dresses - so I am done shopping unless something doesn’t fit (the shoes should be fine, and will see about the dresses).
@bhs1978 I just ordered a JS Collections dress myself but who knows if it will work. I have ordered 5 dresses online since November but they haven’t worked . I haven’t tried anything on in a store yet so hopefully going through 5 online dresses doesn’t sound too crazy!
Thanks to all for bearing with me on this dress search! I am probably making it more stressful than it needs to be, but dress shopping is usually just not my thing!
I haven’t ordered any dresses yet for the Nov wedding in TX. I’m hoping that the covid situation improves this summer and that I feel comfortable going to a local store again that I love. The ideas here have been wonderful and will expand my search.
It’s a pretty dress. I hope it’s the one.
5 dresses is nothing, I think each wedding I must have ordered minimum of 20 dresses online. Several times I ordered the same dress in 2 sizes. For shoes I ordered probably 15 pairs from Zappos for the first wedding. 2nd wedding I wore the same pair again. 3rd wedding I ordered just one pair but I already knew what I wanted.
I don’t have a lot of stores locally with nicer dresses so online was my best option. I miss the days of going to a department store with a big selection.
I’m struggling. MOB here — 2nd daughter. I just wish I could wear the same dress I wore for the first, but both daughters have vetoed that.
Early photos, 2PM church wedding, more photos, 5PM cocktail hour, then dinner in a beautiful hotel ballroom with barrel vaulted ceiling, August, 96-degrees???
I’ve contemplated one dress for the whole day — OR — two dresses. The two dress thing seems to be complicating D2s vision for the day, when pictures will be taken, what I will have on etc.
I’m fairly small. 5-2. 120lbs. Simple lines are preferred — but nothing too narrow cut. No blouson, no ruching, no sequin patterns changing at the waist, hips or knees! Must be fairly easy to alter.
I live in the DC area. Bride and groom live in the Midwest, where the wedding will be. Nordstrom is my go-to.
The supply chain is killing me. And, probably killing the retailers as well. I look at Nordstrom every day. Basically, I like the same designers and the stock is just so limited. I have two sparkly dresses ordered from Bloomingdale’s (Nordstrom was OOS in my size). The ballroom can definitely handle the sparkles — but I just don’t know if I want to wear them to church at 2PM.
Adriana Papell is my go-to for more fancy. I have this dress in Nile. I’m told I can’t wear it again. I LOVE it. I’ve purchased it from Bloomingdale’s (due to long return policy) in Navy (too dark) and Lead (actually sort of brown-gray). Lead would be fine at night. Not sure I love it for day.
Here’s the full line of colors directly from Adriana Papell (30 day return policy):
What colors do you think would be good for early August? I’m staying away from Emerald and deep reds because they seem too Christmasy.
Alfred Sung is my preference for clean day time lines. I’m considering a long dress that’s not sparkly for the whole day.
This Alfred Sung is really a bridemaids dress, but the lines are clean enough that I could wear it through the day. Bridemaids are in Navy. I’m looking at tea rose and also at the silver/platinum tones. 10 week order time if I don’t choose a quick ship option.
The mist looks a bit more dressy. The pink is probably too young. The wrinkles show easily. (I have another dress from the same line in navy, which seems to hide the wrinkles better).
Thanks to all. I returned the Alex Marie dresses(too long and just didn’t seem right) today to Dillard’s(15 minutes from me so I am looking mostly at Dillard’s) so am moving on with the JS Collections one I ordered. I am becoming a serial returner at Dillard’s (kidding , only returned twice but more returns will be coming since I order in 2 sizes) and the saleswoman remembered me today and has been very helpful.
My limit is ordering no more than 2 dresses at a time . Mostly because I just want to keep track that credit card returns get credited correctly before I move on.
I am so looking forward to hearing about what other moms of brides and grooms are looking at! Luckily, I will probably not be getting these 2 dresses delivered for at least a week, so I probably won’t be boring all of you with my dress saga for awhile.
@Mom22039 So glad you posted just now. We cross posted so did not see your post before I posted. Lovely dresses. I’m sure the lovely ladies on this thread will be very helpful! Best wishes to you for fun shopping and a wonderful wedding!
The dresses under consideration all look very lovely. My main consideration would be how comfortable the dress in question is to wear for many hours to all day wear. Sequins are ok or if you’re too self conscious about them earlier in the afternoon, you could have some wrap that wouldn’t snag on the sequins (but that will be warmer for an already warm time of year and day.
The simple Dillards dress can easily be dressed up with jewelry & accessories that you like and can reuse.
