The blue is such a pretty color
Thanks everyone!
Starting to look through this thread…
#1D and her fiancé of 2+ years decided to get married in mid-July. They’ve gone from a traditional wedding/reception in a normal venue to a courtroom with only immediate family and dinner after (not sure yet if it’s Canlis-level nice or something else) and a fairly casual party with ~50 guests at our house at the weekend. Two dresses/outfits required.
H is madly working on the deck and yard, #2D is helping with the planning, and I’m doing my best, all things considered.
My attire constraints: I’ll be having a double mastectomy a month before the wedding and reconstruction won’t be til late fall. The plastic surgeon says I’ll be completely flat. No low or v-necks, no low back. At a minimum shoulders have to be covered so wide cami straps won’t show. If sleeveless, then high armholes. Clothing needs to be step-through, button front, or zipper back.
I’m short, but long waisted, and round. No idea on colors yet. (The kid isn’t the best planner.)
Wish me luck. Haha
Zee, do you want long or knee length?
Sorry to hear bout the mastectomy. I hope you know small/ flat is the new look. Is your reconstruction with fat or implants? I hope not the latter.
@zeebamom so sorry to hear, no suggestions about a dress. But I’m sure you will get lots of options
Lots of high necked dresses but maybe a dress with a jacket?
Where is the wedding? What do you expect temps to be?
The wedding is in a suburb of Seattle. Summer traditionally begins around July 14, but the past few years have been sunny and warm from June on. Given the awful spring we’ve had, I’m hoping that’s still the case.
I’d like to have a dress that’s midi-length, definitely below my knees.
Since I retired, my style has been leggings and tunics, running tights, linen, shorts, and tanks and tees in summer. Think JJill and Eileen Fisher.
Thanks for the good thoughts. I’m fortunate it isn’t anything invasive, just a recurrence of DCIS, but I’ve had radiation so mastectomy is the only solution. Recon will be DIEP, no implants.
The weather sounds lovely in mid-July. I looked it up. I wondered whether the idea of a jacket would work. It’s 100 here today so I would not be wearing a jacket in mid-July, but that might work for you.

@zeebamom congrats to the happy couple and their parents. And hugs to you. I am so happy to see you posts because I was quite worried when you mentioned the “procedure.” This seems to be a good guide regarding clothing post-operation:
I think tops with ruching like this one in the photo might work to mask the top portion of the body quite well.
Such a wonderful variety of options! Not knowing what you look like, @zeebamom, I couldn’t say which I like best - but there seems to be something for every body type & style. Happy hunting!
@BunsenBurner thank you! This has been going on for a year now and I am just over it. Honestly, when my onc said that mastectomy was the gold standard of care, I heaved a huge sigh of relief. The wedding is a good distraction.
I like the idea of ruching or something flow-y that doesn’t call too much attention to my upper body.
It looks like the blogger is on Instagram, so I’ll check it out.
I bought the same blue dress last year for son’s wedding. I wore it to the bridal luncheon with pearls. It’s a great dress.
D2’s wedding. D1 took me shopping - tried Nordstrom’s- nothing, tried Maceys -success. This looks way better in person than online. I feel lucky.
This is the pant suit I will wear in the fall in Texas. The wedding is all outside. If you recall I am small 5ft and a pear shape. This fit to ankle length. Love it. Great quality. Now the question. What shoes and colors, accessories, other ideas? D1 said no black or white shoes. I don’t want to wear stilettos, or even high heals. The photo has tan shoes. Maybe Red? who knows. Ideas are wide open.
Cute jumpsuit! I would go gold or silver, whichever is better for your coloring, dress wedges or flat sandals.
What is interesting is that I would never have found this online to order (we found it online after trying on some and then found it in the store). I was very surprised how just a few subtle differences of the choices made big differences in how they looked. Like the one I tried on that had a belt. That just made it look like it had no waist.
I did just find an article that mentioned colors that have been matched with navy jumpsuits and green was an idea- apple or emerald. That would be interesting. Also silver or gold was mentioned but they thought gold was a little better. I’m having fun with this now that the outfit is in hand!
