The four dresses I ordered came while I was out of town.
The “famous” Alex evening dress- I didn’t love the navy of the one I ordered. I think it’s too dark almost black. One issue I found is that it’s large in the chest and I’m not sure how that can be altered. Overall it’s a very pretty dress but maybe not the dress for me. I like that it isn’t super long. I might try ordering in a different color and maybe a petite if they have it and hope it’s smaller in the chest.

I love the color but again it’s large through the chest. Also the waist drop didn’t hit me right. For someone with a different shaped body it’s a beautiful dress at a good price.

This one fit nicely through the top. I like the color. It’s just about 2 feet too long! With the layers I’m not sure how much it would cost to alter. I’m going to look at a few more dresses of the same brand.
My takeaway from the four dresses is I need a dress without a structured bustline. I need some stretch I think.

Mine was lavender which I don’t think they make any longer. It was a petite size. Honestly, the whole dress needed to be altered so I can’t tell you if the petite is smaller on top. But it was altered to perfection so it can be done.

Wow, that pink is pretty! Just went through this whole thread – thanks for all the suggestions! – and am still discouraged. My daughter’s wedding is in early November. The bridesmaids are wearing navy and she doesn’t want me to wear navy. Everything I like is navy! Also, she and I both think the best length is ballerina/mid length and I don’t see much in that length. I do not like sequins, beads, ruffles, etc. – I’m a pretty tailored type. Can’t figure out what color to wear and also what style. I’m 5’3", busty (no plunging necklines!) and size 8. I have a tummy so nothing clingy. AND I’m on the young side for a MOB so I don’t want anything beige/lacy/dowdy looking. I’ve been searching for months and honestly haven’t found anything approaching what I’m looking for . . . has anyone had a dress made by a tailor?

Yes, I had my dress made for son’s wedding this past Memorial Day. It was beautifully made and fit me perfectly. I had much anxiety about shopping for a dress knowing it was highly unlikely I would find something that suited my body in a color I loved and also fit really well. I heard from friends about a woman who makes custom gowns and I called right away for a consultation. I am so happy I went that route and ended up a with a beautiful couture gown. Generally I shy away from being in pictures, but I was happy to take part when wearing this dress.

Yes, I had a dress made. Mine was royal blue, the bridesmaids wore dark green. Mine was a tunic with pants, all silk. Some lace and blue Swarovski sequins near the top and layers. It is a National company, but fortunately the main sewing room is in my area.
My office manager is a 2x or a 3x. She chose a standard dress from their catalogue, in a goldish color which looked great with her blonde hair.
