Just read an older post about premed and honors.
You mentioned picking up honors credits by taking a 1 or 2 credit Common Book Experience or mini-mester UHP class.
Sorry, I don’t speak the language yet, but what is mini-mester? and is Common Experience listed as a UH class? I know I’ve seen that one before somewhere.

Common Book Experience is an Honors UHP class. I think they’re for frosh only.

The mini-mester classes are offered around end of Sept or so. They run for a few weeks and are for one credit typically. You won’t find them online right now. They really aren’t called mini-mesters…they have some other name, like Fall II or something like that.

Common Book Experience is UH 120. Here’s a link from 2010 that gives a flavor of the course:

There are sections listed for Fall 2012. Don’t know if there are any openings.

Thank you had not read the book choices before. I will look into that.
New question…
Son is currently registered for taking Chen101 and Phy101 this fall.
the Chem meets 3 times in morning, and then once on Monday evening?
Plus Lab
PHY meets T/R afternoon then also Wed evening (no lab?)
The advisor refered to one of these evening slots, like oh that’s test time, you won’t be in that… I think he said that about Chem but said he wasn’t sure about Physics evening.
I’m confused. what are these evening slots used for?

Do the Common Book Experience classes count toward the 6 credit UH seminar requirement or just toward the 18 hour honors requirement?

Good reminder on the 1 credit honors mid semester classes. Are they offered both spring & fall?

If all goes well, S will have 1 honors credit left to complete after fall semester and I wondered where he was going to find that?
Are there other options as well? AA/OA leaders. Other trips/week long things?

They count for the UH seminar requirement. See below:.

I’m confused. what are these evening slots used for?

Depends on the prof…some use them to give proctored tests, some use them for grad students to do tutoring, some might use them for lecture.

My kids rarely had to attend these evening slots.

Any class that has UH XXX will count towards the 6 required UHP credits.

Except, apparently, UH 400 courses and Pass/Fail UH courses, which DO NOT count toward the 6 hour UH requirement. (see above)

^ How does one tell if a class is Pass/Fail? Do we assume it’s not unless it’s marked as such?

The info on myBama for each course will note the type of grading. Alabama/Outdoor Action and Common Book Experience courses will say “Standard Letter Grade.”
