Here is a strange experience I had recently.

Since I heard that HS students can witness live surgeries, I contacted surgeon for a shadowing experience. I told him honestly I was in HS and very interested in a medical career, and asked him if he could help me out. He really surprised me (I mean it) when he actually accepted to let me shadow him, and even asked me if I wanted to see some surgeries. I was like ecstatic, until... he asked me my credit card # to make me pay to be able to see one of his surgeries.

Did you guys also experience such an experience before?
Do you guys think it is worth the money to go to see his surgeries?

Any comments are welcome, thanks for reading.

Greedy bastard. I understand that shadowing can be an imposition on the physcian but there is something unsettling about a guy who would charge money for something many many other physicians do for free.

yeah that is some weak ****

wow............
when i shadowed a nephrologist, he didnt ask me for money. He was more than happy to help. Definitely that surgeon is way too greedy or really need to pay off his debt.

Woa...that's a first. I've never heard of that! I've shadowed MANY doctors, one being a surgeon, and I've never been asked anything like that. The surgeon let me walk in and stand next to him while he was doing the surgery without a charge.

Just curious...how did you respond after he asked you for your credit card number?

i would say 'screw you'

if the doc wants to help, awesome...but if he's charging you.

uh, shady... steer clear

"Just curious...how did you respond after he asked you for your credit card number?"

Well, I simply said that I had to ask my parents first before making any financial decisions and that I would call back later. Now that I think about it, I don't think I will call back again.
