I am an out of state applicant and I really want to go to school but it is SO expensive!!!!
Does the school offer any scholarships to out of state applicants or just in general?

Thanks in advanced

BTW

4.89 gpa weighted (out of 4.0)
1960 SAT 1 -______-
32 ACT
630 Math 2
670 Bio M
TONS OF EC and Leadership roles!

There are Regents Scholars, which are the top 2% of the admitted pool and the scholarship offers about 6000 dollars and other benefits to each recipient every year. But the average SAT’s for the Regents are usually above 2150. You might wanna retake SAT’s and shoot for 2200’s. I would say your GPA is in par. And they also review your EC’s and other achievements. http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/Scholarships.asp

That’s pretty much the only merit scholarship given directly from the school. There’s also the alumni scholarship for legacy students which is about $1000 and you can reapply every year.

Aside from that, you need to apply outside sources, like the big foundations that give a tons of scholarships, such as the Gates Millennium, etc.

Good luck!

As for being a regents scholar, I think you have a great shot! I mean 4.89 gpa is unheard of…thats like waaay above harvard’s average, and you should be very proud of that. As for test scores, I think you can get it based on your ACT score alone since a 32 is in the 99th percentile if I remember correctly. All you have to do now is write a good essay and you should get in UCSB or any other UC with a regents! BTW my highschool class valedictorian last year got into UCSD with a regents and she had around a 4.6-4.7 gpa and 2000-2200 SAT score. Good luck on all your apps!

Thank you guys!! Even if I don’t get it I will apply cuz it doesn’t hurt to try! :D

Regents is $6,000 per year so if you won’t be eligible for any need-based aid and you are out of state, UCSB is still going to be expensive. You never know until you apply, though. Best of luck!
