money?

how much money do you college kids spend in an average month???

Too much, lol.

More than I really should. Especially because I want to graduate debt-free.

for things other than acdemics and housing, right? things that people buy for themselves? when I go, I'll probably use like 30 a month =/. don't really buy too much.

id say about 60 dollars a month. but most of it is spent on alcohol.

Hardly anything. I eat on campus on my meal plan or else I feel like I pay twice for meals, which is stupid. There's no movies or anything around, yet, so I don't spend money on those... mostly I spend it on tshirts if the chances comes up (like my school is selling tshirts to as part of the project to raise money for the hurricane area). So I prolly spend like $20 a month. Any spending money not spent on tshirts is spent at Wawa.

my parents keep depositing money into my bank account, but im starting to realize that i dont really buy anything. ever since i bought my last textbook, my atm card isn't getting much use. this is kind of odd, since i really enjoy shopping and consider it a sport during peak seasons (haha). and it's not like i don't have an awesome shopping area a few minutes away (sf). i guess there are just other things to do. i did a lot of shopping before i left, so i dont really feel the need to spend anything. i use my meal points to buy food, and i suppose i spend some money on food over the weekends. no need to buy alcohol, as parties are pretty generous with beverages. anyway, thats about it. i have money to spend, but i'm just..not in the mood. perhaps that will change. ive had my eye on a pair of shoes...

i spent about 400 a month while in college. that went towards car payments, car insurance, gas, food, and misc. expenses (movies, bar, etc)

How do you ppl spend so little, i went to Ohio Univ for some pre-engineering stuff over the summer and i spent $150 in 2 weeks

No professional sports, no restaurant meals, no golf, no travel to another city and apparently NO arts events or concerts......how they do it I don't know.

hm...hazmat.

i go to the sport events (football) here and thats good enough for me. the season package was bought before the semester started. i eat resturaunt meals on the weekends, but haven't spent a bundle on food for some reason (berkeley has excellent food for excellent prices). i dont play golf. i dont need to spend money on traveling to another city because first off, berkeley is not a small town, and san francisco is right across the bridge. the bus ride to sf is free for all cal students. i haven't gone to any concerts/productions yet, but i plan to.

i guess i've spent about 100-150 dollars on some odds and ends, and ive been here for 3.5 weeks. i seem to have a bottomless pit because my parents put back what i spend. i dont know why im not spending more money. i guess i have most of what i need.

How do you resist the playoff happening btwn Oakland & Anaheim?? I would have a hard time resisting that. You have a good set up......I guess I just eat sushi too often for lunch and go to too many baseball games.....and I'm taking a sweet young thing to Broadway next month. I love SF ..... you have it made.

I'm spending like 10 dollars a day on the snack machine...not good but i'm trying!!!

Izzie Bear... I thought I was the only one who saw shopping as a sport!

Anyway, I don't buy much during the week but on the weekends when I go off campus I do. If I didn't have a car and wasn't able to get off campus, I don't see myself spending much at all.

I spend about $20 a week at the grocery store, because I'm not too big of a fan of the food in the cafeteria - I have the minimum freshman meal plan this year, but I'm definitely cutting it back more next year, lol. Once in awhile I'll go to the thrift store or TJ Maxx or something, but I don't spend too much obviously...those are pretty cheap places to shop. Or sometimes I'll need something at Target, but I usually don't spend much more than $20 at a time. I haven't been to the mall yet because I don't have time and I don't think there's any good sales at the moment.

I'm pretty frugal for the most part, though.

My goal is to survive on roughly $100 a month.

Where do you plan to be? It is all so relative of where you will be.

I probably spend close to $80/month.
I use the public printers which are $0.08cents a page and it seems like I have to print multiple things every night.
Laundry is also $1.25 for wash and $1 for dry and I typically use 3 washers/dryers. [once/week]
I get a haircut every 2 weeks.
Lastly I treat myself to something other than the dining hall one meal per week. So technically, I could probably use less.

hazmat...i can resist the game because i feel at least some sort of loyalty to both teams! haha. but actually, it's funny you mention that because a couple of us were talking about how fun it would be to take in a baseball game. i went constantly as a kid growing up in southern california.

the past few weeks have been a bit unusual. when i would vist the area from santa cruz (where my family and i live now), even if i was in a 30 minute radius of san francisco, i would be there in a heartbeat, pounding the pavement, with wallet in hand. i guess i'm trying to take in this whole 'college campus' thing for all it's worth. it's actually hard to leave on the weekends, even to sf, what with football season in full swing, and the parties and get togethers associated with all that.

i do spend money on food. but i guess throughout the school week, ill either eat in the dining hall (my dorm has the only honestly good (not just ehh) DC on campus) or ill buy something at one of the various cafes on campus that accepts meal points. on the weekends, ill go downtown for meals mostly, but sunday brunch at my dining hall is pretty good.

yeah..laundry..but i dont count quarters into my money equation. haha.

clothes is the real problem. i have bought one top since i arrived here. considering the fact that i am not in a financial bind when it comes to allowance (at least now), i have no idea what im doing. but..i guess i've grown above compulsive clothing shopping? could be be...?

It also depends on whether you room on campus or off. My sister moved out to an apartment this year, so that costs around $300 a month.
