I'm trying to decide between Monroe and Sharp...is anyone else? And do any current students have a say in the matter?

I know that in previous years, Sharp has been the "fun dorm" and that a lot of freshman request to live there, but Monroe has just been renovated! Should the renovations make a big difference in my decision?

Now, see this is why I come here! My son's a Monroe RA, and I didn't even know it had been renovated! (I don't pay attention to the stuff he doesn't care about if there not a good reason to, I guess!) Thanks--now I'll go ask for digital pics from him!

My S just returned from Honors weekend and gave me his view of the freshman dorms: Monroe is in nice shape, renovated fairly recently, and while Sharp is not as nice, the students there like it alot, have a lot of "dorm spirit" or whatever you might call it.

As a Sharp resident, I would most definitely pick Monroe if you already have it narrowed down to either Sharp or Monroe. Monroe is just as social only it is newer and updated inside. Also awesome views of New Orleans on the upper floors, study lounges are much much nicer as well. However, there are rumors that Sharp will be renovated this summer, since it was supposed to be renovated last summer.

My son is at Tulane and ended up in Monroe freshman year. Many of his friends were in Sharp. He found he much preferred Monroe over Sharp due to the nicer rooms and less-frequently flooded bathrooms. Turns out most of his Sharp friends wished they were in Monroe.

Since "dorm spirit" is of absolutely NO consequence to S, he wouldn't notice such things. He liked Monroe alot better than his sophomore dorm (Irby) and so do I, although the Irby location can't be beat.

I lived in Sharp freshman year and I absolutely loved it. I was on the 3rd floor and found nothing wrong with the rooms/bathroom/anything. I'm sure there's hardly any differences between the two dorms, so you really can't go wrong either way, but here's a vote for Sharp.
