So I hear that the MT productions planned for Fall are “Aida” and “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, and for the Spring semester they’re planning on “Songs For a New World” and" West Side Story." I’m curious as to which plays are being planned. Anyone know?
Do the MT shows overlap as far as rehearsals etc. ? Was wondering if the kids have the opportunity to try out for all the shows. I know first semester freshman can’t .
I know several BFA Acting students have been in the MT shows, including leads, and my son has said the BFA MT students can audition for plays. But I don’t think they require ALL kids audition for ALL shows. But crossover is permitted. In the Producers one of the actors playing Max Bialystock was a BFA Acting student. (It was double cast).
Basically they audition for the semester (not for one particular show) and, after call backs, land where they land. They are generally not cast in more than one major show in a semester. And there are semesters where they won’t be cast at all (good time to get tech requirements out of the way). The MT BFA kids have to audition for the musicals; auditioning for the plays is optional for them. And I assume vice versa for the Acting BFA’s. This is the first year they are having auditions for the fall semester musicals the spring before. Previously they have been the first couple days of school. But apparently they have always had the auditions for the plays the spring before, so now the programs are consistent and it is easier to audition for both/either. This does mean no freshmen in the fall shows, whereas previously there were always a few cast. Not sure if this was also a factor, but in the past couple of years some kids ran into problems with summer stock gigs not being quite over by the start of school/auditions, especially when school started before labor day with it sometimes does.
Thanks for the reply’s!
