Is there any significance to the fact that on the Montclair admissions portal it now says “musical theatre” instead of “undecided”? D auditioned last weekend.
Sounds like an acceptance to me! Ours is still undecided from NYC Unifieds!
Fingers crossed!
I saw others talking about this in another thread. My d is scheduled to audition on 3/24, so not sure if that changes anything (meaning, do they accept before they finish auditions?).
You have to wait for artistic decision letter. Your area of study can show MT without it meaning anything. Doesn’t mean you won’t get an acceptance but don’t read anything into it.
The original letter sent to accept my son as undecided said “As you know, the major for which you originally applied requires either an audition, interview or portfolio
review with the College of the Arts. As tuition and housing deposits need to be processed promptly, the
Admissions Committee has changed your major to UNDECLARED in order to expedite the enrollment
process. If, after your audition, interview, or portfolio review, the College of the Arts faculty admits you to
your desired program, your major will be changed accordingly. If not, your major will remain Undeclared.”
So I think if it changes to Musical Theater you are in. DramaMan why do you think otherwise?
If you are originally “undeclared”, I was told you will receive a separate communication via letter (email) that you are accepted into an audition program. Could be wrong. But that is what we were advised by the program director and admissions office. Each case may be different.
2wuhanmom: I went into my son’s portal and clicked Take the Next Step. It says do you want to accept as a Musial Theater major. It used to say undeclared. His overall portal changed yesterday from undeclared to Musical Theater. I hope it is correct because we were very excited last night. Good luck to everyone.
I think you want to see if the “decision letter” updated. Or if you received separate correspondence confirming acceptance to the program by mail. Again, this is what I was told but not gospel.
@NJMOM24 Thanks - my D was accepted also!
@DramaMan my son now received the ‘decision letter’ updated. No more worry.
I guess things take time and are not always done simultaneously. Thanks for all the advice.
congrats to your D @2wuhanmom
Thanks, @NJMOM24! And congrats to your S!
Hi guys!
I’m a freshman MT at Montclair and this whole portal thing is very confusing. Last year there was no portal so to hear people talk about it this year is weird. Everyone accepted into the program last year personally received an email from the head of the MT program. There is a person who was accepted for the class of 22 who also received an email from the head of MT. I would be wary about acceptances from the portal, double check and email the head of MT to verify your acceptance.
When I go into my son’s portal there is a decision letter that says “Musical Theater”. He may have gotten an email as well. He does not communicate very well about those things.
@lenahcluv Do you like the program? Had you gotten into other programs and decided on Montclair for a specific reason? How many people do they accept into the MT program? What is the breakdown of women/men?
@NJMOM24
I just sent you a message!
@lenahcluv My D was accepted to Montclair - could you message me with the info you sent to @NJMOM24? Thanks so much!
How do you determine if you are rejected via the Montclair portal? Portal for D has changed to say audition was received but no other change. When clicking on decision letter it just loads indefinitely and never opens. Still says undeclared/undecided otherwise. Does that mean a “no” or should I be looking for something else?
@collegemom2000. My sons portal said audition recieved and then we had to wait a day for major to change to MT then we had to wait a couple more days for the decision letter to change from undeclared to MT. Now we recieved a letter saying he was accepted.
@collegemom2000 the page will say “loading” but the PDF letter should be in your downloaded files folder. Have you checked your downloaded files?
