Hi. New here, but been lurking. Grateful to have such a valuable resource here.
My son is applying for MT BFA program at MSU. He has an audition scheduled on campus for Jan 28. However it just came to our attention that MSU will be at the NYC unified audition the weekend before, which we are attending . Should we cancel the campus audition and just do MSU at the unifieds? Or is there value in doing the audition on campus. We live 60 miles from both msu and NYC, so travel is not an issue.
Any comments on the MSU BFA program would also be welcome. Thanks!
My D did not apply to Montclair, but BAL to your son-it looks like a great program! This is my D’s audition year too-so I am certainly no expert: But she was advised to do an on campus audition for her #1 school-even though they (and she) will be at Chicago Unifieds. I don’t know if there is any empirical data to support an on campus (vs.Unifieds) audition-but it does seem to me that showing up on campus MAY be an opportunity to meet more staff members, more students-and make an impression.
If you haven’t been to campus before I would audition on campus. Word to the wise. Park in the parking garage and head to the audition space. It was up a small hill. They are doing a lot of construction and it was not at all clear where to go.
Ok thanks ducky312. We have already visited campus, so we’re inclined to just to the audition at the unified. But if there’s still any advantage to doing it on campus, we’re all ears…
@bobbyg Montclairs NYC Unifieds had a room mix up in their dance call last year. On top of the snow, the room mix up made things late. I think all things being equal on campus is best. Exception would be if your student enjoys the high energy of unifieds more.
The on-campus vs unified discusion has been going on forever… They would not spend the time and put forth the effort and expense to audition at unifieds if they were not accepting from that venue. For what is is worth my son and another classmate was accepted from a non-campus audition.
@Ducky312 …and temperament because the vibe is TOTALLY different. And I didn’t mean only he and one other person were accepted from an off campus audition, I meant from that particular audition…
I don’t think it matters. My daughter goes to Montclair and she auditioned at NYC Unifieds. If you have any specific questions I could help with, let me know.
