Montclair State University (MSU) Theatre Majors/ Programs

Hi all, I have some questions about the theatre majors/ programs at Montclair State University (MSU) for Fall 2019:

  • Compared to other schools, how difficult is it to actually get into the BA Theatre Studies major?
  • What is the class size of the BA program?
  • Also, how does the difficulty compare to the BFA program?
  • What are the differences and similarities between the two?
  • Are there any acting/ movement classes I can take as a BA major?
  • Would it be a bad decision to switch from BFA to BA if you plan on double majoring in Chemistry?

Any answers to these questions (from personal experience or from the school) would be greatly appreciated! Also, if anyone is in any of these programs, please tell me what you think of them. Thanks again

To my knowledge, the BA program at Montclair isn’t like a BFA ‘lite.’ It’s more broad and comprehensive for students who may want to explore other aspects of theatre than only performance. Playwrighting, dramaturgy, directing, arts management, etc.
