Moody College of Communications: RTF Prospective major.

Hi guys!
I was a terrible student in high school, my GPA was barely a 3.5, i took about 6 AP classes throughout those four years, I really only did two activities: band and dance team, and I had to work a full time job because I had to help support my family after my mom was diagnosed with cancer. So I be decided to straighten myself out at Community College for a year before I try to transfer into UT at Austin. I’ve been looking into their RTF department since I was really little, I’ve always knew that that’s where I wanted to go to school, plus it’s in Austin, that’s an independent film making city. I’m torn at what I should do to get in though, I read on the Wikipedia that it’s easier to get into as an internal transfer, but I’ve heard others say otherwise. After high school, I won’t have very much to put on my resume because I don’t want to dance anymore and the school I’m going to doesn’t have a band program. I’ve been looking into volunteering at an animal shelter and taking pictures and videos of the animals to send to prospective owners, I’ve been dabbling with the idea of putting on a film festival for my high school’s television station, and I’ve been thinking about doing senior pictures and homecoming pictures for the girls in my town to beef up my resume but I don’t feel like that’s going to be enough. I realize GPA is a huge factor and I plan on getting a tutor to help, if I can pull a 3.5 in high school without even trying I’m hopeful that the tutor will be the extra step I need to stand out. My question is, how do you get in as a transfer in RTF? I know it’s extremely difficult, but I need to try to get in and I need any advice I can get. Thank you!

In RTF you can choose media studies or production.

You are not ready for production, you don’t have any experience and don’t know if you have any talent. If you don’t have talent you will not make it. You might graduate but you will not get any RTF related job.
For media studies you have to be really studious, like research and consider graduate school.

My personal opinion is that you are making a mistake with RTF.

How about this? Do you think you might have any talent for creative music and sound since you were in band?
