Does anyone know when the nominations for the Moorehead will come out? All I have heard is "early January." Since notifications about scholarships have been going out, I figured I would ask. I am OOS, and my school is not one of the ones granted the gift of nominating for the Moorehead.

Did you get any letters from the Office of Admissions?

I recieved the so-called "likely letter." No word on merit scholarships, though. But the Morehead nomination comes through the Morehead Foundation directly (according to their website), not through university admissions, although admissions does forward applications to the Morehead.

As an OOS, it is really, really difficult to be nominated for the Morehead because you have to be specially set aside from all of the applicants.

Oh well - I guess I can hold out hope till "mid" January. I wish they'd give specific dates for announcing important things like this.

i'm sorry to bring a negative note to this thread, but i just want to let you guys know that the application for the morehead (whether you were self-nominated or school-nominated) was due in October. semi-finalists were notified in decemberish, and i just had my semi-final interview yesterday. i find out about finals at the end of this month. sorry to break it to you guys that it is too late!

i have been so frustrated with my guidance counselors because i have missed several big scholarship opportunities at schools that i am interested in that i was not informed about (the robertson for duke, for example). my guidance counselors are completely focused on the morehead and carolina and have been a great help with all that, but with every other school i'm interested in i have had to fend for myself.

so anyway.....:)

You are a bit inaccurate with regard to deadlines for Out of State at-large candidates/applicants.

This is taken directly from the Selection Process Calendar on the Morehead website.

"Early January 2006
Morehead Foundation requests Morehead application forms from out-of-state students selected as at-large nominees by the UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

January 9-20, 2006
Regional interviews held across North Carolina. Each of the 21 regional selection committees interviews 12 of the 252 semifinalists. 60-70 North Carolina finalists selected. For a complete list of regional interview cities and dates, please see the 2005-2006 Morehead Regional Interview Calendar.

January 21, 2006
Deadline for UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions at-large nominees to submit completed application materials to the Morehead Foundation

January 27, 2006
Morehead Foundation notifies North Carolina semifinalists regarding interview results; Morehead Foundation notifies UNC Admissions Office at-large nominees of screening results, invites 5-10 to be finalists."

thanks for correcting me! i didn't realize that different deadlines applied to OOS applicants than NC applicants. that definitely makes sense though, as there is a much larger number of in-state applicants so they need a longer time to sort through apps and choose semi-finalists.

in that case, OOS people, good luck if you still have time to turn in your app!

Well guidance counselors need to start doing their job right. I just got into UNC (Class of 2010 baby!) and, well let's just say I got myself into Carolina...
