Sports are taken seriously in the Morehead selection process, but I think you're covered. Your ecs look a little cluttered, so I suggest organizing them by topic (music, service, etc.). You have a good shot at merit money even if you don't get the Morehead. Be sure to fill out the supplement for the Robertson.

I'm a little curious about this too. I swam competitively for years and on the school team fresh/soph year, but took junior year off (the time committment was simply too much for me, what with my courseload) and am swimming again this year. I do work out on a regular basis though, so I'm still doing SOMETHING.

Is this sufficient?

BTW, it's Morehead.

From what I have seen, the "athletic vigor" requirement is just one way of making sure that the potential applicant is very well rounded-no couch potatoes or those who do nothing but study in the group. There are high school varsity athletes among the Moreheads as well as those who are just athletic, meaning they are runners or swimmers but not competitively.

I'm really not sure about the bowling aspect but I'll try to ask my son who is a Junior at UNC and a Morehead for some clarification.

The pamphlet I got today (our school preliminarily nominates 10 people, and then narrows it down to 2, I'm part of the 10, huzzah) said that if you're in possible contention for Morehead you can't apply for Robertson this year. Which is lame.

What if I have very little community service? I've done so much that I just basically dont' have any time left in my life; will holding a job for over a year, and throughout the school year help my case for teh fact that I haven't done much?

Ughh, are you 100% positive on that? Darn, I was counting on applying for both of them. Can you apply for Robertson's at Duke and the Morehead at UNC?

Hi schmivy: Who wrote the pamphlet that stated that? Is this a policy of your high school? Students don't actually apply for the Robertston (though there is an optional supplemental you can complete if you want), and I know there have been several students who were Morehead nominees, and ultimately finalists/semi-finalists, who are now Robertsons. And I know of at least one person who was named a Morehead Scholar who turned it down for the Robertson. So there is often some overlap, and the interview and finalist weekends for each are not held at the same time. So I'm a little surprised that this would be a new policy. Perhaps it's your individual high school's policy??

schmivy: Hi. I just checked the site, and you're right. I'm guessing this would not effect the Duke Robertson, because it states, "A student may not be considered for both scholarships at UNC-Chapel Hill at the same time . . . "
http://www.moreheadfoundation.org/about/nomination/ (At bottom of page in box), but you might want to check for sure, jegan3.

yeah, the thing said it was a new rule that you couldn't do the Carolina Robertson, so I think you can still do it for Duke.

I have no hope at being one of the two from my school who is nominated. Gaah.

schmivy

Being that you are from North Carolina I believe that you can self-nominate/apply unlike those from OOS who must be from a nominating school and be selected as the sole representaive of their respective school.

I can self nominate, but it mgiht be kind of useless. I'm using Carolina as one of two safeties, the other of which is NCSU, so who knows, I might get nominated by teh same teachers (apparently our faculty has teachers nominate students, and the ones who get a bunch of nominations get screened to get down to th two) for the Park or something. And who knows, I might be more worthy than I think. I'll see what happens. But I"ll probably just focus on getting into Columbia and Dartmouth

hey guys

I’m from NC, and also a Morehead Semi-finalist. You can’t apply for both the Morehead and Robertson at UNC, but you can apply for the Robertson at Duke and do the Morehead at UNC (which is what I did)

hope that clears things up

um…wow a blast from the past
