Moove-in tips?

I know move in is gonna be hell, at least for me because not only do we have my car that i’m taking to campus, but there’s also my parent’s tahoe that’s actually taking all my stuff. Maybe hell is an understatement.

There are faculty/staff parking spots that you can’t use during the week but you CAN use evenings or weekends, so look for those on Friday night, Saturday, or Sunday. Also, check with the front desk of your dorm to see if you can get a pass to park somewhere nearby for a short time while you unload.

During regular move in they provide you with a temporary 1 hour parking pass for spots right up near the dorms.

For Jester your best bet would be to park in the Brazos garage on the bottom level. When I help move my friends in this is the place we usually go to.

Other places around Jester would be the parking lot between PCL and Jester and the parking lot in front of Gregory across the street. I would personally avoid parking somewhere if you have to cross a busy street if there are other places available.

If you live in Kinsolving you can park in the lot across from the dorm but you’ll be using a side entrance on the north side of Kins since there are two sets of stairs if you go through the front. I’d suggest parking in the lot of the church next door (even though you technically are not supposed to) that way you are closer to the best entrance. There is an ally that goes right by the side entrance and that is where I usually park every time I move out. (This is for the North Side of Kinsolving)

Wherever you live, it’s a good idea to have your own moving dolly. They have some you can check out but they run out fast especially at popular times/days and you have a specific time limit or you will get fined.

“am I going to get strange looks”

I haven’t ever seen a U-haul at move in time. xD

This doesn’t really have to do with the move-in process itself, but it’s still a good tip. Wash your new towels SEVERAL times before you move in. Even after one washing, they still leave fuzz bumps ALL over you. You’d be wise to do these several washings at home, before you move in, so that you can save the laundry money.

What would be the best parking spot for the honors quad moov-in?

Totally unrelated question— does anyone ever use up their dinning dollars? $38 / week for food doesn’t seem like much … Can you replenish your dinning dollars if necessary? Or do the all you can eat cafeterias take bevo bucks or cash?

They do, but it’s significantly more expensive using cash then dine-in dollars.

I don’t quite understand. They tell us to meet in the stadium (“UFCU Disch-Falk Field”), right? So how on earth do we get from the stadium to the dorms?

With your car. They give you a parking pass to use for 1 hour over by the dorms.

In previous years they used the TSC (pool) facility, but that is closed for renovations/construction/something this year. The reason for using these types of places is lots of open space and lots of open and free parking. It makes the whole thing less of a hassle to direct people on where to park.

Oh I see, thanks. Does that mean we can park anywhere with these passes? Or is it restricted to certain lots/garages? (At the very least, will it work in Brazos? Im in Jester)

One more question. Where would we be picking up our keys? I’d really hate to haul my luggage around in line, especially if it ends up being really long…

(Hey I’m from Plano too xD )

I’ve heard the passes are for the actual parking spots, like right up against the building. Or for staff parking spaces, depending on where you are staying.

This works well for dorms like I am in (Prather) since there are like 150 people total in the dorm, and that spreads out over all three days and all the time slots. There can’t be that many cars at once.

For dorms like Jester, maybe other options are available, since all those people can only divide themselves among the times so much. But I’d imagine that the staff realize that parking on the 4th floor of the garage isn’t a viable option when you have to bring everything into the dorm from there.

And I’d assume you wouldn’t get your luggage out at the fields, you would just probably show ID and get your keys/guidebook. Keep it in the car until you get to the actual dorm.

(What HS did you go to? PSHS here.)

Are there things to do after you get settled in? Like to get to know people or skits and stuff like at orientation?

or are you just on your own from there?

reminder for regular move-in people. for check-in, you’ll have to go to the UFCU Disch-Falk Field (DFF) before you head to your residential halls.

Also, for anyone moving into the Castilian:

They are limiting who gets to use the elevators. So if you are on the 12th or 13th floor you will have to use the stairs. The other floors will be divided, like two floors for one elevator.

At Castilian they don’t do that - just Dobie during the year – For all the dorms at move-in they allow the elevators to go to set floors but every floor gets an elevator. I’m not sure where you got that info but I don’t think that’s right. When I moved to Castilian they didn’t have it setup that way at all.

I knew you were going to have something to say.

Girl at the front desk said it when I checked out. She also told it to a girl who was moving in early. She works there so I assume what she said is true. Just giving a heads up to people who have to take the stairs, if it’s true. If its not, oh well, but if it is, some people have to plan how they are getting their stuff to their room differently.

I have no reason to make it up. Maybe they are doing things different this year. I don’t really care just telling everyone else because I know some people are moving into the Castlian.
