Moral Forum

What is the Moral Forum UH class about? I can’t find any info in the catalog. How is Stephen Black?

Moral Forum is an Honors College class that tackles a different ethical dilemma each year. Each class member partners with another student to form a debate team that must be prepared to argue either side of the issue.

Class members then engage in a debate tournament. Teams are only rewarded for making effective, affirmative arguments/points. They do not score points for attacking/critiquing the opposition. Winners move on to the next round. The finals are held in an auditorium before the public. Participants are required to wear business attire.

When my son took the course his freshman year, all four finalists were awarded a cash prize of $2,000 apiece. Semi-finalists who did not move on to the final round were also awarded a cash prize. My son and his freshman partner made the finals, where they were defeated by a superb and deserving team of juniors. Needless to say, I was a proud dad.

Stephen Black is awesome, though he does not teach every section of the course. My son found Moral Forum to be a tough, appropriately demanding, and thoroughly rewarding experience.

Any idea when the topic for this year will be posted?
