More about Acceptance/Parent Weekend

I cannot believe that one week has passed since I first saw my son last Friday.

Well, Acceptance weekend at USMMA was tremendous as was detailed by Jamzmom. I just relive the weekend over and over again in my head. I actually enjoyed sitting in on his classes, particularly the one on maritime history, the prof. was fasinating. I did skip out of Chemistry however...went to the parent reception instead!

The "Beat Retreat" Friday night was incredible...what a band USMMA has! The Sheriffs bagpipe and drum group were terrific...everyone was absolutely great...a show worth seeing!

Boy, he and all the plebes looked great, especially in their whites!. They carried off the ceremony with perfect precision...there "about face" earned them a round of applause from the audience. The swearing in actually brought tears to my eyes, as well as others, considering what an awesome responsibility that oath entails. I really don't know when I have felt this proud! More importantly, I never saw my son as proud as he was that weekend.

My son did not want to go into Manhattan, he told me that when they get leave that's where they will go all the time, so he just wanted a good meal and to relax!

8kids we stopped at the ice cream parlor that you recommended in Great Neck on our way to the hotel...all of us loved it..thanks for the tip!

Navy2010...thanks again for all your tips for fine dining.

I finally met Jamzmom & 8kids...hopefully at future events will have more time to spend with each other. I am sorry that I did not run into LVBD dad.

Bossf1...thanks for sharing your PICS, they were great. I see that Jamzmom gave you the heads up about the Admiral's sentiments regarding the Coast Guard Academy...oh boy, look out you guys!

PS I loved how neat and clean his room is...really, it might be a good idea if every kid had to spend a few weeks in such an environment!

The big news that weekend was the announcement of the commencement speaker for graduation for the class of 2009...the President of the US!

This time last week, I was looking for you PM! :) I think LFWB's Dad was hiding. Can't believe I missed everyone. Could be because of the double duty for the president's conference stuff then the parent's stuff on top of it. We were exhausted and my feet! Oh my poor feet! We covered every inch of those grounds - I know. How the heck did you get out of chemistry! HA! AND What did you think about The History of "Sleep" Power? The kids call it that. Can't imagine why. Those rooms were rather tidy weren't they? They had more drawer space than I thought they would have. All of it was full though. What was your Plebe doing today with his first liberty?

"The big news that weekend was the announcement of the commencement speaker for graduation for the class of 2009...the President of the US!"

Yes Hillary will do a great job! Sorry I'm a Democrat!

Oh please no Hillary

She's already been boo'ed once at a KP graduation (2000) no need for her to have the valedictorian blast her again.

Bossf51....

Funny that you should mention Hillary....I was commenting to my friend about the President speaking to the class of '09 and stated that I feared my son might just quit USMMA if he believes that Hillary will be their guest! Or maybe he will have a "set-back" instead!

Some advice for Parents Weekend....make sure that you have nothing big planned for the Monday following, take a vacation day from work...you really need a day to recover, its exhausting.

When i wrote about the maritime history class, i forgot that the name is the history of sea power. that was the class that i really enjoyed. Well, i guess i was always a nerd!

Maybe the plebes call it the history of "sleep" power cause it was after lunch.
