more about the early decision contract?

so i am going to cancel my other applications now, but before doing that, i just want to know where are all the details on the early decision contract?
what if worst case scenerio happened when i cancelled all my other apps and then cornell decides to not take me (because in the acceptance letter it seemed that they still have the right to do that) ????
Isnt that not fair? the fact that cornell wants us to guarantee them we are going by giving a deposite AND withdrawling all our other applications while not guaranteeing US a spot?
i can't go to college then?! thats my biggest concern!
i mean, its not like im gonna slack off, but what IF?

yea i was wondering the same thing.

yeah
while totally excited for cornell, cant help but wonder the 'what ifs' because they DO happen, i dont want to end up in community college or no college at all!
are we allowed to not withdrawl but just dont accept other college's offers? will cornell do anything if we can't go to college at all?

That's pretty weird. I was wondering the same exact thing.

Hey, me too. Well, actually, I haven't applied anywhere else, but still, same boat.

i guess i am not cancelling my apps though just let them accept you but not enroll there

I am not withdrawing my application to Penn State Schreyers.. I doubt that Cornell will know if you do or not..

I refuse to risk Cornell having the chance of find out I didn't withdraw my other application. Think about it guys, if you got into Cornell you've basically been near the top of your class throughout high school. Do you really see yourselves dropping that much? Already my GPA has dropped about 2 points first quarter, but I seriously doubt it'll drop much more than that. You'd actually have to stop doing most of your work to really risk getting kicked out. And so far my attitude has been much more relaxed in high school (At least for the Friday after my acceptance lol) and I bet most people perform just as well or better when they're relaxed now that they 'got in'. So no more stressing over tests, just keep doing what you've been doing throughout high school and I figure Cornell will be where we'll all be in August. So far in high school we've all been trying to have our GPA's reach a certain point and be as high as possible which is hard and stressful. Now the only goal is not to have it fall below a certain point, and those who are accepted certainly proved they can do that easily.

Hi Guys- Cornell Mom here. I do believe ALL schools take the ED commitment very seriously. And I believe that it is EXPECTED that you withdraw all your other applications.
Please check with your guidance counselors and your parents. You have gone this far and you made it into Cornell- Congrats.
You don't want to screw it up now.!! And I agree with Mike- I think the schools mean that you don't start failing your subjects or dropping all your courses. I think if your average goes down a few points, Cornell ain't going to care.
Good luck!!

Yeah my guidance counselor told me to withdraw my apps immediately. She said that's a fair and honorable thing to do. Also she told me that during her 41 yrs of counseling, she has never had a college revoking her student's decision. (but obviously it COULD happen..so)

Hi guys,
This is another mom. I totally agree with marny1! Have you ever heard of your Social Security Number ???I would take the ED policy very seriously. Don't take the chance. My daughter will also need to withdraw three other acceptances, which includes UM-AA and PennState's Schreyers Honor. YOU can also lose your spot at the other schools. That's the definition of BINDING.

While the moms and all are correct, I don't think Cornell cares much about your safeties. I was too lazy to withdraw from PSU Schreyers and UF and nothing ever happened to me. Make sure you withdraw from all the schools that do compete with Cornell for students; don't stress too much if for some reason you don't withdraw from the other schools. BTW, I thoguht PSU was rolling (so you should probably have already gotten a decision from PSU) and then Schreyers was a separate notification?

Yes, she got into PSU and the Schreyers is a different application. But remember you are holding a spot and it's not fair to other students who really want to get in and actually go to the school. It may not be their safety, but actually a reach. Don't be greedy, give other kids a chance. It's the right thing to do. You wouldn't want to be in that situation. Enough guilt : )

This is how our school ensures that kids don't hold 2 spots: before Dec 15 they will only send out transcripts & letters for rolling admissions & ED applications. If you apply ED & are accepted, they won't send out more recommendations and transcripts. So even if you submitted your applications elsewhere before you knew you were accepted ED, you wouldn't get accepted anywhere else because your application wouldn't be complete.

It keeps things honest and above board.

well, the letter cornell gave me didnt sound definite at all. it seems to be it might as well be "ok you should cancel all your other applications, give us your deposite and we'll see"
if cornell guaranteed me 100% (of course i wont start slacking....) acceptance, i will cancel all my other ones immediately?

When you applied ED, you agreed to withdraw all applications if accepted, yet you won't, but are doubting Cornell's intentions? Schools do share info on who they accept, so I hardly think it's worth risking your acceptance. I strongly urge you to speak with your guidance counselor to explain the ED committment.

they kind of said in the other letter saying that you have agreed to withdraw any applications you have filed.........................so i guess we should withdraw and plus isn't cornell your first choice school??
i dont mind withdrawing other school since i got accpeted to my first choice schoooool
but how to withdraw other schools??

You either call them or send them a letter.

it's also cruel to take spots away from students who aren't already in college

so we have to call them and withdraw our apps in other schools?
