So this year we are seeing some serious increases in all of the top schools # of applicants… probably from many students trying the shotgun effect… so do you think that will mean more people will be let off the wait lists/ let in… I think the projected acceptance rates are wrong because it doesn’t take into account how many students are now applying to a larger # of schools.
For more people getting in off a wait list? probably not. The over-subscribed schools have been managing this for years, and have a pretty good idea of how many of their acceptances will accept them, For projected acceptance rates (%)? probably- and they will all get to look even more selective, which which will make a certain number of people see them as even ‘better’- but in real life it won’t change that much. From your other threads, you are a credible applicant for the places you are applying. Take a deep breath: angsting about what will happen over the next 4 weeks or so isn’t going to do anything but wear you out. You have done what you can, and should have some good choices.
Imo, you should turn of CC until you start getting replies- and then come back and tell us how it’s going
It really depends. If a school attracts more student to apply, the yield rate may also increase. UMich has doubled the number of applicants in less than 10 years while the yield rate keep going up. In the last few years, the application increased 6% annually in average while the yield rate climb up 0.5% each year.
Hard to know how to pass the time I guess.
But i came across this today:

Unless they increase the number of acceptances the yield doesn’t change with increasing number of apps. Usually, the “selectivity” goes up because a smaller percentage of apps are accepted
