hey!
dude, first of all, i’m really sorry about having to have brain surgery. that must sucks, and i really hope you recover fully.
your sat is fine, so are 2 of your subject tests. i’d recommend taking a different 3rd one, just to get a 700+
the low gpa really messes up your chances, but the adcom will have to understand as you were doing near perfect before surgery
your EC’s, though are quite amazing, do not seem extensive enough. you need to have leadership and more school oriented activities.
I think MIT is a a reach, and Cornell, Dartmouth are low reaches. The rest are mathces and you should get into them.
Good luck.
Please chance me too http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/541342-chances.html</a></p>

Thanks

Any other thoughts?

Hey I’ll chance you … but can you chance me too?

Cool … you had brain surgery!!! That’s something most applicants do have … when I went through your stats, that was the thing that popped out. In your essays, explain how the brain surgery affected you as a person … why did your grades fall? how would you have handled it better if you could at all? how did that experience make you a stronger student? Those are things you need to keep in mind. Otherwise, your grades aren’t the best at a UW 3.4, but you obviously challenged yourself in school, but people do say that C’s are not something you want on your transcript, especially when you’re aiming for the top schools … but you are a special case. Your SATs are extremely impressive at a composite score of 2340. That puts you in the Top .5% of the US. Your SAT subjects are pretty good as well. Your extracurriculars are out of the ordinary … maybe you should send a sample to admissions to demonstrate your interests in graphics. Other than that, your ECs are pretty skimpy, because you have that and the library volunteering, but at least I know that you really like the graphics stuff and that you’re focused on it … that’s a good thing, especially when graphics in games are becoming more and more detailed as time goes on.

Overall, you’re a good student.

Chances:
MIT: Reach — but your video game programming may help a bit
Cornell/Dartmouth: Reach — GPA
Boston U: Match

I’m not familiar with the other schools, but I wish you good luck and remember to chance me too!

You’ll definitely get into Boston University and Northeastern to begin with.

Wow, that’s intense, getting brain surgery in the middle of the school year! Your ECs do seem a little on the skimpy side…nothing other than video game development and library volunteering. Also funny how you got a 3 in computer science when you are so good at developing gaming things and you get a 5 in Chemistry despite getting a C in the class.

I think you have a pretty good shot at making Tufts. Cornell is a medium reach. Dartmouth is a reach. MIT would be a very high reach…

Haha, well, see I program my games in C, which is not at all an object oriented programming language. I was lazy and didn’t learn the Java/OOP stuff until the night before the exam. I was surprised that I managed to write passable Java code even though I’d never written a single line of Java previously :)

Anyway, keep the chances coming, I appreciate them immensely :)

Boston University -----in, great SAT
Boston College----- Match, probably in
Tufts University-----Match
Massachussetts Institute of Technology -----reach, its a reach for anybody
Northeastern University----in/safety
Cornell University-----Match/slight reach
Dartmouth University------moderate reach

well good luck, also if you could kindly return the favor and give me a quick chance review, my thread is on the first page titled “Chances?? por favor”

Thanks, everyone! Any chances will be appreciated and the favor promptly returned.

GPA is gonna hurt you alot at your choices. At least at MIT

in general, you look like a strong applicant with great scores, good gpa (besides the brain surgery time, but thats understandable) and you are a URM (egyptian)
the only thing that lacks is ECs however the ecs that you do have are very unique (at least from what ive heard/seen)
here’s what i give you:

boston u: safety
boston college: in
tufts: dont know too much about cant chance srry
NE: safety
cornell: match (you should be getting in)
dartmouth: high match
MIT: low reach (sort of unsure of with this)

thats my honest opinion

here’s mine:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/542289-ay-yo-hit-me-up-plz-mit.html</a></p>

thanks and if you could please give me constructive advice thatd be great

brain surgery? It’s a little too early to have severe brain problems…

But nonetheless, if you mention the surgery in your essay or have your counselor write about it then I’d say you have a good chance.

you are obviously a good student with amazing SATs…your GPA does not show your capabilities. Make SURE you somehow let the adcomes know about your brain surgery. They are going to be baffled on why you did so poorly in your junior year. Egyptian is considered white right? i do not think you fall under URM .. i am not sure honestly. But yea, if the Adcoms do not care about your junior year marks, i think you have a good shot at most maybe except MIT. good luck
