More Effective Use of Time

Hi everyone,

I'm just looking for some feedback. Ok, I've been self-studying calc based physics this summer to primarily test out of 2 classes at my school.

If I take the physics SAT II and score an 800, will this particularly impress adcoms or not so much?

I'm concerned that I may be wasting my time in a since because I could be working on college essays.

Can you try to do both? Essays aren’t that hard. If you spend an hour on it each day, you should be good.

In all likelihood, yes. 800 is a good score. Not exactly perfect, though it might help you out in admissions.

I should have stated this in the previous post: I have 2 800s and a 780 on 3 other SAT IIs so another 800 will not help considerably. I was wondering if a self-studied 800 would show “intellectual curiosity” or whatever the buzzword you prefer.

I’m just wondering how much of a pay off it would be because learning physics 2 is going to be a lot of additional work.

Yeah, um, do both. It isn’t that bad.

EDIT: Oh, you don’t necessarily have to waste your money. It won’t help if you have 3 good scores already.

well I am not experienced at this and sorry to be so blunt but … taking another SATII to get yet another top score will not show intellectual curiosity. It will show you are great at studying and taking tests and yes smart but nothing about curiosity. If I was an adcom, I would wonder what else you could have been doing with your time … in addition to the essays. Think more creatively … but as i said I have no experience at this.

I see, thanks for the feedback.

I think learning for learning’s sake is never a waste of time.
So if you like calculus based physics and enjoy doing it, spend time doing that but make sure you still have enough time to write fantastic essays.
