More financial aid for 12+ units?

I am attending ucla this fall and I'm currently enrolled in 16 units. I got a job offer so I'm thinking about dropping one class which won't affect my enrollment status since I'll still be considered full time (12 units). The financial aid office already deposited the money and I used it to buy my textbooks, but since I'm thinking about dropping one class, will this mean I have to return some money? I've been told that you get the same amount of money whether you take 12 units or 16, is this true? Another student also told me that you only have to return money if drop below 12 units, which I won't be doing since I'll be taking 12 units... I've sent the financial aid office an email but have not received a reply. Their phone hours are from 2-4! and I can't call during those hours b/c I'm at work. Someone please help! Thank you for your time! :)

It could depend on the kind(s) of aid you are getting. Generally, 12 credits is full-time for finaid but you are doing the right thing by verifying with the finaid office before dropping the class. Keep in mind you may be delaying graduation by not taking a full load(different than full-time). Generally you need 15-16 credits a semester to graduate in 4 years.

Be careful about dropping classes that will delay graduation. Cal Grants are only good for 4 years.
