More Honors Decisions??

Somebody posting on the UNC board said they got accepted to UGA Honors. Anybody else get a letter?

I got an invitation to the Honors program, I don't know if that's an "acceptance" yet or not.

Had you sent in an application prior to the invitation?

The invitation to the Honors program means you are in the program. No, you did not have to actually apply to the program to get in. My daughter did not apply for the Honors program or the Foundation Fellows scholarship (which was also an application to the Honors program) and received the invitation to the Honors program. She was an EA applicant, was accepted on December 15th and received the invitation by the end of December.

Did your daughter get any scholarship money?? It's weird, cause I was given a scholarship but not accepted into Honors yet.

No, we haven't heard anything about scholarship money. Traditionally, except for the FF, no one hears until late March/April. I honestly believe if they awarded you money, you would get into honors. The only students I know of last year who got Charter scholarships were admitted to Honors. I think the admissions office is a little disorganized this year with all the applications. If I were you, I would give it about another week and then I would call the Honors Department listed on the web site and talk to them. Good luck!

My son has a Sat verbal-740, math-800, writing 720, GPA weighted 4.09 from Woodward Academy in ATL top 12% of class. 5 AP Chem, 5 AP English. He has already been accepted EA to Georgetown Business school and UGA. However, we have not heard from UGA Honors. Should I be concerned. I personally think he should have heard by now. We know others with lesser numbers who have heard from UGA honors. Unless he gets in honors. I am sure it will be off to D.C. for him

All I can offer is the examples from our schools...my daughter is in the academic magnet in our district. She applied with a 33 ACT, top 2%, 8 APs, 2 college classes. All the students that fall in same ranges for the class rank, number of APs AND test scores seem to have already heard from honors.

At the performing arts high school, kids with similar rank and scores, but fewer APs have not heard from Honors. This is also consistent with the private schools here. When we visited UGA earlier this year, they made a big deal about the strength of the transcript.

There were many surprised kids here that were deferred from UGA in the early round. I know kids that have gotten scholarships at other schools that have not been accepted to UGA yet.

The post card said by April 15th. I wouldnt be concerned, all of you seem to have outstanding stats.

Also, Brewsterdawg - Congrats to your son on Georgetown!

I am beggining to realize a 1540 on the SAT and GPA over 4.0 isn't as strong as I thought it would be. It seems every aspect of UGA admissions is super competitive. We are awaiting RD decisions from Duke, UVA and UPenn all of which may be a stretch. This is going to be a long month. Thank goodness he got into Georgetown and UGA.

Remember, UGA recalculates the GPA using their own scale. I would bet he will make into honors at UGA.

Are you kidding me? Unless your son is a criminal he is a shoe in for honors with those stats. This isnt Yale - its very numbers based.

In fact, im surprised he didnt get an invite. I have a friend with lower SATs and a similar GPA that got an honors invite.

Hopefully, the only problem is my impatience. But when you hear stories of people with lesser numbers already hearing. You begin to wonder what's up.

If he applied RD that may be the issue - again i wouldnt be worried. Unless UGA has some sort of quota on non - Woodward Academy people, which doesnt make any sense.

If this makes you feel better brewster, I got my honors invitation this week (I applied RD in late december, got my acceptance early february). My GPA was a 3.4 when I applied to UGA (never submitted my midyear report, but that would've brought me up to a 3.7), and my SAT is 1500. With your stats, I'm amazed you haven't gotten an honors invitation. My only big pluses is A) National Merit finalist and B) some good ECs.

I'm glad you got in Xshare222, but it doesn't make me feel any better. Ususally the accepts all go out in one batch and the rejects in another. So if I haven't heard yet and you have . . . BTW, are you OOS?

Nope. I am in state, Atlanta resident.

brewsterdawg my future(well hopefully) roommate is in the same situation as your son. He also has a 2260 on the SAT, although his GPA is a little bit lower... I think a 3.97? He also made 2 5's and a 3 on his AP exams and 800's on his SAT II's. A lot of kids from my school with lower stats than him have gotten in though. I don't really understand how they're doing this...
