Decided not to apply to LLC (am DA OOS). Want to be in NW, either McNutt or Brisco. How do they differ socially? A little confused about the housing...if application is submitted January, do they usually fill McNutt first or can you land anywhere NW? Also, is there another step to get into the email account (already have account with passphrase) that needs to be completed before you can do the housing? Thanks!!

First, I just wanna ask, ARE YOU SURE YOU DON’T WANT TO APPLY TO THE LLC. I would recommend that so you have that option, you don’t have to live there if you get in, and let me tell you, EVERYONE WANTS TO LIVE IN NW. EVERYONE. And it’s EXTREMELY HARD to get NW housing unless you apply SUPER EARLY.

Briscoe: Pros:REALLY nice. You don’t have to pay for laundry (I spend at least $10 every single time I want to do my laundry) each floor has a laundry room, the lounges are amazing, the rooms are HUGE, everything is great in Briscoe! I would recommend Briscoe over plain 'ol McNutt, but i would pick the LLC over Briscoe.
Cons:No food place is in the immediate area. You have to walk to Gresh or the C store to get food, if you haven’t stocked up in your fridge. There is a hill for people in Briscoe to get to these places. A TON of money. Even the quad is more expensive than the “premium double” (it’s in quotes because I don’t think anything is that premium about it, but I don’t know what a non-premium looks like)

McNutt: SMELLS, Have to pay for laundry, Small rooms, Group bathroom (if not in LLC, I THINK. Because Crone had to get renovated with the new bathrooms after they decided to add it to the LLC, so I’m making an assumption)
PROS: THE C-STORE. God’s gift to us all. Classes are held in the center building.

Both are close to Gresh, tailgating fields, the stadium and the Kelley School.

And I don’t understand your question.
I have a friend outside the LLC, that I’ll take to.

^^TY…but where WOULD you live if you got in and decided not to be part of LLC? Does it still get you into McNutt? Are you limited with roommate selection in Briscoe (smaller and the price…how much more is it?) How far is Briscoe from McNutt? Am applying very early…when it opens up next week thats why the thread.

IF you end up in Northwest, you could end up in Briscoe, Foster, or McNutt. Or you could end up in your second choice neighborhood.

In response to your other question: Briscoe is right next to McNutt, although Briscoe is further from campus than McNutt by all of 100 yards. Students generally don’t select roommates, so you’re not limited in terms of roommate selection.

Thanks soccergurl! I was under the impression you could request Briscoe since the cost is more? Also, by applying Jan. 1 does this guarantee Northwest if requested first choice (housing application not up yet)? Do you have to request a second choice?

Honors is going to be in Briscoe…if that helps at all

Kurz–You do have to rank all 3 neighborhoods (unless they’ve changed it this year), and there’s no guarantee you will get your first choice. I would say the odds are higher of you getting the first choice by applying earlier, but no 100% guarantee.

Since you rank 3 choices, if you get into the LLC and decide not to do it, you would end up living in one of your other choices, just as if you would live in your other choices if you didn’t get into the LLC.

And here’s a map from the rps website so you can see the distances from each residence hall. but Briscoe and McNutt share a back parking lot so yeah they’re extremely close: [IU:RPS - Maps](http://www.rps.indiana.edu/resmap.cfml)

and according to rps website again, the cost for a Briscoe double is $7,071 and a single is $7,443 whereas a McNutt and Foster dorm would be $5,853 and a single would be $6,731
[IU:RPS - Costs](http://www.rps.indiana.edu/costs.cfml)

If you rank “premium” high in your preference, you are very likely to get into Briscoe.

Starting in the fall all the floors in McNutt will be cosmetically the same, that is they will all have the 8-9 single bathrooms down the hallway. As far as housing application do it immediately. There are around 3000 spaces in the NW neighborhood and over 5000 applicants to live there, so applying sooner and with specifics is best if you want to live in Briscoe or McNutt. Again, if you apply for and get into the KLLC then you are guaranteed to live in McNutt. Alternatively if you apply for Honors Housing and NW you greatly increase your chances of living in Briscoe because Honors Housing is in Briscoe. For perspective there are entire floors in Forest (a dorm in the SW neighborhood) of people who didn’t get to live in McNutt or the NW. In short, apply NOW and apply for specific communities.

For those of you advising to “apply NOW” for housing, I assume you mean to apply as soon as the housing application opens for new admitted students. The application isn’t open yet, is it??

Think it opens in January…not sure who gets to sign up first

So could “premiere” housing actually knock you out of NW if you don’t get into Briscoe? Would hate that to be a factor in being moved to another neighborhood…want the best chance of getting into NW.

When you apply for housing the options are not Northwest, Central, Southeast. It will be like Northwest Premium, Northwest Standard, Northwest Honors Floor, etc. So there won’t be just a general option for Premium that could make you lose out on Northwest.

So…if you request 1. Northwest Standard 2. Northwest Premium 3. KLLC are they going to prioritize LLC (don’t want but better than another neighborhood?). Thanks for all your help!

Bump. Do they prioritize LLC over Standard or Premium Northwest if you must enter third choice and you put KLLC (application not available yet)? Thanks!

wow… could this be more confusing!!!

Anyone know what the chances are of getting into Northwest dorms if just applying for housing this week? How late are we with housing app?

Not sure what your chances are but I applied on 1/10/2013
