My son received a deferral letter, which was not surprising because we thought it would be a close call. It raised the following questions:

His letter did not say that they would wait for fall grades, but rather that a decision might be had at any time. It did say that if no decision was reached before the end of the first semester, he should have his school send his fall grades. I gather that some defferal letters say the school wants to await fall grades. Does anyone know which letter is “better” is the sense that it means you are a stronger candidate?

What is the thought on sending a mid-semester report of grades in this situation. Does it help the application (assuing the grades are good), or does it at least help to show real interest?

Thanks in advance.
