Hello, My daughter recieved her awards and we are very disapointe with the one from stevenson which is the one she really wants to go to, Lynchberg offered 34000 leaving 5000 and stevenson 25000 leaving 10000 would it do any good to contact the school and try to see if more need based aid is possible? Stevenson only offered half of what Lynchberg offered as far as need based aid. And also how would we go about doing this? Thanks for any advice!

You can call the school and ask them. Each school giving their institutional money has their own criteria for awarding it. I’m not sure Stevenson would view Lynchburg as a “peer school”. But you can inquire at Stevenson.

Both of these schools are FAFSA only schools that do NOT guarantee to meet the full need of their students…and they didn’t. Was any of the aid your child received merit aid?

What was your EFC per FAFSA?

Yes SU was 10000 and Lynchberg was 12000 ou EEFC was 3 something

Lynchburg is a public university (right?) and Stevenson is private and relatively new in its new structure (if I’m looking at the right Stevenson).

You can certainly approach Stevenson and ask but just be prepared for them to say no, just in case that happens.

Remember that you also got merit aid, and that is seldom “negotiable”. Different schools have different criteria for awarding merit aid. Actually your child did well at the schools in that regard.

Good luck…when we “appealed” our daughter’s aid, the school added work study and a perkins loan to her package. She did not receive ANY additional free aid. Just saying that you should also be prepared for that type of increase. If they decide to discuss the package (some schools will and some schools won’t) there is no guarantee that an addition to the aid will come in the form of “free money”.

TThanks Thumper1.
