In the same vein as the "Dating, Drinking, Diversity, Etc" thread, I wanted to ask a few questions (as an EA accepted student to VSB).

(1) What are the freshman dorms really like? I've heard different things about RA strictness, camaraderie, room sizes, comfort level, WiFi access, bathrooms, etc.

(2) For someone in the VSB: How would you rate academic difficulty (1 to 10)?

(3) Is not having a wad of cash in my pocket at all times going to make me feel out of place (lol)?

(4) How are the career services / advisement?

(5) How easy is it to make good friends? Is it true that most (guys especially) already know a lot of people before coming on campus?

(6) In general, would you say it is worth it to go into significant debt to attend Nova?

I graduated a few years ago, but can try to answer some of these questions, as I too was in VSB.

1) The Freshman dorms are okay. Not great, but not bad. Most freshmen are on South Campus, so it is nice having everyone in the same area. I was in Monica and at the time, there was an “opposite gender” curfew, as it was all girls at the time. Pretty annoying but not really an issue if you just go in the building a bit before the curfew. The room was fairly big and clean-- pretty standard. My sophomore year RA was much more of a pain than my freshman year RA, but it really depends on the individual.

2) I thought there were certain courses that were extremely difficult and others that were enjoyable and minimal effort. Overall, I think the classes inside VSB were more difficult than my elective classes in other schools. It really depends on the professor you choose. My advice is to pick the "best professors regardless of the time the class is offered (get up at 8am, take a night class, etc)-- in the long run, you will enjoy the class more

3) No- this is a myth. Yes there are some ridiculously rich kids at Villanova, but it is not everyone.

4) I wish I would have made better use of career services. I did a resume review there once and an interview prep and it was really helpful. They are good about getting “big name” companies to come to campus for internship and full-time interviews.

5) I never noticed that groups of guys knew each other since before college. Maybe a few here and there, but they meshed with people they didn’t already know. It takes a while to find your core group but you will certainly make friends within the first semester.

6) I had a great experience but the school is expensive. VSB is awesome and gaining a lot of recognition. Shoot for a great job out of college and hopefully the debt burden will not seem so bad. I still keep in contact with some of my VSB professors and they are, and always have been, so approachable and concerned with providing their students with a great education.
