More of a "how am I doing"?

Ohai guys :)

First off, quick introduction. 15 year old male aiyshun kid (although not exactly your stereotypical asian kid), interested in going into engineering (mainly).

-8th grade, took Algebra I and Spanish I (recognized by the state, but non honors classes...)
-Freshmen year took honors/Pre-AP everything except honors Geometry...
-Sophomore year took all honors/AP/Pre-AP courses...
-And currently, my junior year I'm again taking all honors/AP/Pre-AP...

Again, I'm not exactly a "brilliant" student. I've never made a C, but am an A/B student (with a slight bias towards the B's :P)

Last year when I recieved my "transcript", I was at a 5.0GPA on the 6 point scale, and a 3.5 on the 4 point scale.

My 6 point scale GPA will never be high, as I enjoy taking non-honors classes as welding (Welding, video editing classes, ect.)

My parents don't care about my grades for the matter (gasp), I'm a self motivated kid with no one else to blame but myself =]

I have NO extracurricular activities I have joined, no community service hours, no sports (don't enjoy them), and no clubs. I enjoy keeping myself busy in my garage, building/creating anything with wheels on it :D

Not exactly in the hottest spot... Any tips on what I should be going for? I have a high aim education-wise... hell I find chemistry, physics, and pre-calculus useful in my everyday situations with the things I do ._.

You seem like a very interesting applicant. Unlike most people on the board, I think it’s fine if you don’t participate in your school’s activities. As long as you enjoy what you do, that’s great =) Continue building things and exploring your interests in engineering and show the colleges that you have your heart set on that. Consider taking AP Chem, AP Calc BC, AP Physics, and AP Stat. If you get 4s or 5s on them, it will show the admissions committee that you are good at what you like. Best of luck!

You’re kinda like my dad. When he was in HS, he didn’t join any clubs. He built stuff at home kinda like you do, and he got into UPenn. But then again, that was the 70s, and, um, my dad’s dad was a professor at Penn. I’m not sure but that might have influenced the decision.

So, I think you’re okay on that. But you NEED to do community service stuff, and I really recommend you boost those grades a bit. And I agree with BioAnthroPsych that you need to get 4s and 5s on your APs. Writing a great essay (something on the topic of the fact that you aren’t the typical Asian might be humorous and heart-warming) will definitely convince the admission officers in your favor.
