More orientation details falling into place

Hurray! My S got his proposed course list, contact information for his roommate and his dorm room number today. He's already talked to his roommate. His going to Hobart is bit by bit becoming real!

Anybody else receive their info?

I’ve been PMing with a William Smith parent. It appears they got their course info a couple of weeks ago and their roommate and dorm room assignments more recently.

Are your sons and daughters happy with their list of proposed courses? My S is happy with his although he’d like to test for Spanish and swap another course for some more advanced Spanish. I don’t know when they get tested as there’s not a whole lot of time in the regular orientation period. I guess that’s a question to ask soon.

Also, anyone hear if they’ve been accepted into the pre-orientation trips? My S applied but he hasn’t heard yet.

My S has been accepted into the advanced pre-orientation trip and he’s thrilled! What a great way to begin to have fun, make friends and get settled at HWS.

ugh. sorry. I am just a little frustrated. I have my adviser and courses and all that stuff but I still don’t have my dorm info…I’m a transfer student by the way. The person in charge of the residences told me it’ll come soon. I guess I just have to wait…like I have been for at least two weeks…or longer.

Whitetie, I’m sorry you have to wait some more to receive your dorm info. It’s so hard sometimes! Will you be a sophomore or a junior? Do you like your courses? What will you be taking? What do you like about Hobart so much that you decided to transfer? Transferring takes a lot of energy and self-initiative; it seems so much easier to just stay where you are, so I have a lot of respect for students who go to the effort of transferring. I hope you hear soon! Hang in there!

I’m really excited to go to HWS despite the dorm room glitch. Everything has been great so far. My adviser ironed out all the details and I like my classes, it’s just that I didn’t have that much of an option for the class times. But my adviser told me to check out the registration session on the 17th of August, because classes open up and I may swap, and make changes if possible. I’ll be a junior by the way and my adviser said I’ll have the same opportunities that day like all other upperclassmen.

Whitetie, I’m glad your advisor has been so helpful and encouraging for you. Good luck with any class changes you want to make. What will be your major? Is that the main reason why you transferred?

I’m an economics major. I just don’t like my school. I mean I made friends and all that it’s just that my school is too big for me. Like 40000+ students big. The classes are big and I was naive enough to think that I’ll be able to handle it but I couldn’t. I’m nervous though now that school is only weeks away. I hope I made the right choice. I know the first few weeks or like the whole first month is going to be tough but I’ll find my niche, somehow. I’m psyched!!!
