More rigor or higher gpa?

I would really like to take AP Chemistry, but it requires chemistry as a prereq. I'm a sophomore, which is when most students usually take chemistry, but I decided to take AP Bio. I would need to take chemistry over the summer, but that would lower my gpa and rank. Should I take Chemistry over the summer so I can take AP Chemistry next year?

I always vote for rigor, but ymmv.

try testing out.

I’ll try testing out and ask other students if they got past it any other way. Thanks!

If you’re getting mostly As in the most challenging classes offered, you probably don’t need to worry much about class rank or weighted GPA (which only matters for class rank). I mean, if you took difficult classes and got As and still have a low class rank, colleges will probably realize that there’s something wrong with the way your school calculates it.

If you’re concerned about this, though, could you take chemistry without getting a credit for it (maybe pass/fail)?

AP Chemistry is a beast. Just putting that out there.

Definitely rigor. Colleges don’t want to see all A+s in just easy classes. They’d rather take the B in the AP class

More rigor and a higher GPA.

Rigor definitely! So try doing it in the summer! I was in the same boat as you this year (im a sophomore) I took AP Bio and Honors Chem (and anatomy) this year so I could take AP Chem next year!

I’d say rigor with a high GPA as more of a bonus.
