biggest problem (explained by GC): I didnt go to a international school when I was in hong kong, therefore my english and spanish grade sucked first year....and she also highlighted my upswing trend....

Recommendations:
1 amazing rec from my math teacher who taught me multivar and linear algebra junior year..she probably talks about my passion in math and how I self studied for AP Calc and jumped a year...she also knows me well in person

1 decent rec from my spanish teacher who saw my spanish grade go from a C+ to A- from sophomore to junior year...and then go on to study abroad in summer

GC rec is decent

1 stellar rec from the secretary general of a UN chartered NGO as I was a webmaster, he talks about how i approached big corporations, wrote proposals and landed 2 lucritive webbanner sponsorship for the website...(maybe a hook?)

took multivar and linear junior year...plus almost qualified for USAMO, dont know whether this help for engineering

anyway cumilative GPA is 3.2 breakdown is sophomore 3.1, junior 3.3 senior so far 3.7 unweighted

what are my chances for
(OLD LIST)
cornell (engineering EARLY DECISION) (LEGACY)
Wash U St Louis (engineering)
Michigan Ann Arbor (engineering)
Tufts (engineering)
Carnegie Mellon (info system/engineering/business)
USC (engineering)
BU (engineering)
U of Illinois urbana champaign (engineering)

added ones:
Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech, Emory Oxford, northeastern and northwestern

lol so many people posted after me...bump

pls chance me ..and also an additional question...is northeastern a good enough safety?

lol this board is getting swarmped

Northeastern is very much a safety -- no worries!

how bout the other schools?]

(OLD LIST)
cornell (engineering EARLY DECISION) (LEGACY)
Wash U St Louis (engineering)
Michigan Ann Arbor (engineering)
Tufts (engineering)
Carnegie Mellon (info system/engineering/business)
USC (engineering)
BU (engineering)
U of Illinois urbana champaign (engineering)

added ones:
Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech, Emory Oxford, northeastern and northwestern

It seems that you have a good choice at all of them from what I see.
I don't think any of then would be considered reaches.
Good luck with Cornell! =)

You have a good shot at all of them I think, too. gooooooood luck

bump.asdfdsfd

"AIME: 9/15" very impressive

Mudd is a high match/slight reach

I think you will get into Cornell ED. Are you really sure you want to apply ED?
I would drop a couple of the more safer schools on your list and add MIT and Caltech.

i wish i qualified for USAMO..i needed one more question..but i thought i didnt hv a chance to qualify at all so i left the test an hour early...

anyway...thanks so far and more inputs pls

i bumped this way too much

umm your totally gonna get in cornell with that legacy..lol. i wish i had legacy

my gpa is the breaking point though

cornell ED engineering: High Match (legacy will help a lot)

Wash U St Louis (engineering): High Match, Slight reach

Michigan Ann Arbor (engineering): High Match (put a lot of emphasis on GPA)

Tufts (engineering): Match

Carnegie Mellon (info system/engineering/business): Match

USC (engineering): Low Match

BU (engineering): Safety (yet never use BU as safety, too unpredictable)

U of Illinois urbana champaign (engineering): Low Match (tempted to say safety but they are state U and GPA matters a lot)

Harvey Mudd: Slight Reach (your AIME is definitely gonna help u here)

Georgia Tech: Reach (GPA is god here...they get too many grade inflated 4.0s around the area)

Emory Oxford: Low Match
northeastern: super safety
northwestern: Slight reach

your GPA's gonna hurt u..but ur super high math curriculum and high SAT II scores....plus ur uber AIME scores gonna save u in the engineering admissions..specially for schools that have sperate admissions offices for engineering............

Your GPA may look bad on here with the rampant grade inflation that occurs in public schools and private day schools but if you go to one of the top 20 N.E. boading school your deflated GPA is actually pretty good. Every college you're applying to realizes this because they are constantly fed prep school kids with similar stats and lower GPAs. They take this in to acount. They know the courses are harder.

well i go to hotchkiss
