Currently, many math and chem classes are full. So will UCSD open more spots for students registering late?

I’m also worried about this. If they don’t open up more spots, I’ll have one heck of a schedule.

I would sign up for other classes if possible, don’t just try to wait it out and hope for the best. I also wouldn’t count on them opening up more spots; in fact, I’ve gotten an email from a class saying people will actually have to drop because they over-enrolled

I doubt they will open more spots at this point.

so discussion class’s availability will remain 35?

I’m hoping to switch one of my math classes to an earlier time. I guess this isn’t likely to happen then? So many are full already…

Can students directly talk to professors to kinda squeeze into classes?

No… adding and dropping classes is done entirely through WebReg, thus the profs have no say in anything. More than likely if you ask them to get you into the class, they’ll tell you to get on the waitlist and see if it moves.

@ucsandiego915: thx. Now I have to pray to the God that some people might drop the class.

^You will most likely be fine If it makes you feel better, I got into every class I waitlisted this past year. Even when I was like #15.

the only people who have power in overriding webreg rules are counselors and departmental student affairs staff. i’ve used both – when i was a prefrosh, i decided that waitlisting for my preferred class times was a good idea instead of getting into the open ones available. a counselor called me and managed to squeeze me into a few previously-full lectures. and later on in college, i had to go plead with some staff members to allow me into some labs that had filled up before i could register.

most enrollment caps are actually a few students higher than are given on webreg – these are emergency spots held for graduating seniors and the like.

@astrina: So even though I can’t get a class I want, I still have hope to get the class I want by pleading counselors and student affairs staff? When do students know whom their counselors are?

slaps head
so # 15 on waitlist isnt that bad? well… ther goes my phys 2A. I opted out, so i could enroll for chem.
