For those who have been in a competitve College and a competitive HS already, which do you think is more stressful...?
I'm currently in high school and i don't how things can get anymore stressful than it is now.
just curious

Dont know, but hopefully college is a little less stressful. I mean, it's alot diff from hs, alot more relaxing, my guess.

It probably depends upon what college you are going to and what program you are entering (i.e. I hear architecture is an all work-no play obligation = high stress, or Pre-med or the like).

In college, my friends who had gone to super competitive (ala Andover) schools found college a breeze. The rest of us, even from top publics, found college harder.

I can't believe that college would be more stressful. The way I look at it, in highschool you have to worry about getting into college in the first place, which makes every test you take pretty important to get an A. In college, who cares? A, B, C, whatever. It's not like your going to go to a job interview and say I graduated from a school like Georgetown, but only got B-'s. They will say, graduated from Georgetown? You've got the job. So in that sense I think college is less stressful, even though I'm still in highschool.

good point.

I go to a very, very competitive high school---#1 public HS in the state. I have respectible grades with minimal effort, so ideally, college shouldn't be bad. Plus, the best part about it is if you get a C or better, you get the degree. The only problem is that then you have to worry about grad school, so technically just because you're in college, doesn't mean that you can stop caring about your grades.

I went to a top private and two top Ivies. College is much easier most times and there is alot less pressure overall. Much more free time. You only have class three hours a day if that! Under heavy times though (exam weeks, midterms, etc) I worked harder in college than in high school.

For most of college, there's way more relaxation and time to do whatever you want. As slipper said, being in class for 3 hours a day is a full courseload. That said, the exams and papers are usually around the same time for every class, so there's like 2 weeks in the middle of the semester that are filled with work, and then finals at the end.

I've found I do way less work in college than in HS (IB program), but come time for exams I have to study more than I did in HS for the tests. In HS there are many other parts of the class to help your grade if you don't do well on a test, but in college if you get a C/D/F on a test, you just got a C/D/F on 33-50% of your grade.

And your grades do matter for employment, but more for grad school, if you're looking there.

Generally from my high school(top tier private high school) kids find college a breeze and we have been better prepared that a lot of our peers.
There are times that you have to work at college undoubtedly but the workload and requirements are not on average any more stressful.
