Hey,

I was wondering if it would be acceptable to send in an extra essay aside from the common app and supplement, maybe like 2-3 paragraphs detailing academic interests or something like that?

What do you think?

Hey,

would this be recommended?

If this has not already been addressed in your other essays, I say go for it. It's surprising how many prompts in some college apps are totally unrelated to what the student's educational goals are. It would seem to be the obvious question: what is it that you want to do; how do we fit into it? I see no problem communicating what your educational goals are and how the university fits into them, and how you fit into theirs. Do it.

There is space at the end of the common app that is along the lines of "do you have anything more you want to tell us" and if you have an essay about your academic interests that is not covered elsewhere, it is appropriate to add that in. As long as it isn't overkill with things you have already covered. The worst that can happen is they decide not to read it though, and it might help them get a better feel for your goals. It will also show you care to go the extra mile for the application.
