You have a SUPERRR good chance. I would expect you to get in.

Ignoring your SAT I, I'd say you have a great shot. 60% or so -- maybe even 70% (a match), f your essays are excellent (given your strong profile + URM status + low-income area).

By the way, I say that for very, very few people.

I'd say a good chance. There's no way the chance is over 50%, it isn't for anybody. Especially with a (for Stanford) lacking SAT score and slightly below average ACT. Good luck with your endeavors and I'm sure you'll secure admission to a top school!

varsity mariachi?

^^lol @ Varsity Mariachi. sounds fun. wished my school had it! definitely would've joined

No, it can be. 50% is a slight reach -- it could go either way. There are those whom the odds are in favor of, and those tend to be the well-qualified URMs and other hooked candidates.

1) The ACT score will be looked at over the SAT score. 2) His ACT score is slightly higher than average (range: 28 - 33, so average is a 30.5).

You're right, it can be-for development admits. Not for an unconnected ordinary Joe-unless you've accomplished something truly extraordinary like being a grand winner of Intel, chances aren't over 50% for Stanford admission-even for an URM. And you know you can't take the average ACT like that right? Anyway it would be better to look at the corresponding SAT score (considering that not many ppl submit the ACT while many submit SAT) for an ACT of 31 which is around 2100-slightly below average for Stanford. This is not to make the OP feel bad or anything, because his chances are excellent as we all agree, but not to give him false hope that he stands a greater than 50% chance of admission.

For universities like Stanford, the 50% percentile usually matches up to the average. (And of course, there is no such thing as a 30.5 on the ACT for a final score, but that's how averages work.)

Actually, an ACT score of 31 corresponds to a 2100-2150.

Which is right around the average. I'm sure Stanford will have no problems with a 31 on the ACT (not to mention a 31 for a URM).

50% means it could go either way, yes? It's equivocal -- it's a tough call. However, I personally am leaning more toward the accept side than the reject, based on my past perceptions/knowledge. So I'd say it's 1, maaaybe 2, increment(s) higher (10-percent increments). Of course, it's still highly possible that that the OP could be rejected. Likewise, it's possible that a person could get rejected from his/her super-safety. However, there's a difference in likelihood of those happening. I'd say the chances are very slightly in favor of the OP, though.

Just my thoughts.
