<p>The reality is that most (science) PhD’s graduate and go into postdoc positions for 3-5 years at median salary of about $38k. That is lower than the average starting salary for a bachelors degree in bio or chem and far below the avg salary from professional masters programs like PSM or MBA. There is a huge need to change the default career path for PhD’s and show how that degree can actually be useful in other settings. It can and it should be valued more highly than it is.</p>
