Would any of you know what it takes to win this scholarship? My D was nominated ( in state) and we haven't heard another word since sending in the application. What type of student is typically selected? Have any of your children won this coveted distinction?

EADad's son won one last year - EADad posts here from time to time but hasn't been around much lately. He says his son has been thrilled with the program so far. From talking to him, it seems they look for more than just great grades - they look for leadership characteristics, community service, character in general. As I remember, they narrow the original applicants down to semi-finalists who are then interviewed and eligible to move on to finalists. I recall that EADad's son didn't hear about being a finalist until close to April last year. I'm sure if EADad is online, he'll have more information for you. If you haven't already read the info. on the web site, it gives a good overview of the types of people selected: http://www.moreheadfoundation.org

Best of luck to your daughter - the Morehead Scholarship is an amazing program.
