I was just watching some funny clips about mormons.. (South Park)
and I wondered if any Mormons get accepted to Ivy League Colleges or what ever the story is.
Comments?

Yeah…uhh…what?

Religion is similar, different, and diverse wherever you go. So yes, there are probably mormons in the ivy league. Just think about it: every state and many foreign countries are represented!

of course there are mormons in the ivy league. there may be less than expected though, because top mormon applicants prefer byu.

See Mitt Romney. He went to Harvard law and Harvard business.

Mormons are very achievement oriented; of course there are Mormons at Ivy League universities.

Except Brown: Brown has a very strict no Mormon (or Anabaptists) policy…

Seriously OP - a little bit of a silly question, but I am now going to search for funny Mormon clips :)

My class at Yale had at least two LDS members. They were roommates and best friends, and later married (non-Mormon) sisters, so they became brothers-in-law as well. And they were famous for having giggle-inducing names, which they learned to carry off with aplomb long before they got to college.

One of the things that interested me when I went from Yale to Stanford was how much more numerous (or maybe just visible) Mormons were at Stanford compared to colleges in the East.

“…I wondered if any Mormons get accepted to Ivy League Colleges…”

Looks like the answer is yes:

No, they’re all at BYU.

On a serious note, I would say there’s probably less than 5 practicing morons accepted each year. Especially at Yale, they would most likely die of culture shock.

I actually know of a girl who was accepted in my class, her parents were EXTREME southern baptists, they visited her during fall break (and almost spontaneously combusted), she didn’t come back for spring semester.

^ That’s sad - for the girl

Odd I’m a Mormon I’m applying to a few Ivies myself. Maybe it’s different growing up on the East where I’m the only Mormon in my entire school. I’ve been exposed to all sorts of social oddities (or what I guess a Western Mormon would consider odd) and different kinds of culture. In fact I’m half Vietnamese and half German (my Vietnamese family is very catholic, and my German family is very Lutheran) so you can guess that my family reunions are somewhat awkward. Schools like Mormons, especially if they did well in Seminary (which takes a bit more discipline than some High School classes seeing as how you wake up at 5 am or earlier every morning to do it).

Most Mormons on the East end are pretty much used to non-Mormon culture, it’s no wonder that there are at least a few in the Ivies. The reason there is such a small percentage in the Ivies? Simply put it’s the fact that there aren’t very many Mormons compared to Catholics or Protestants (at least students who have grown up in those religions) in the United States.

And yes our beliefs are rather funny to most people, in fact most things that are different to us will seem funny or weird to us, but you guys must already know that.
