Morning After Blues

S17 put down a deposit and didn’t get so much as a Welcome to the class of 2017! The silence is deafening. The Courtship Chorus has stopped singing. I seriously feel weird all of the sudden–it’s as if the marketing handlers have been reassigned. I expected him to be prompted to fill in some surveys about housing or given “next steps” or SOMETHING. Hmmm…,talk about anti-climactic.

Many schools don’t have the next steps until May/June/Summer timeframe. The deadline for notification to the chosen college is May 1. Although there are no bonus points for committing earlier than that at many places, yes, it would be smart and easy for colleges to acknowledge it in some small way.

That is pretty typical. There are no next steps for now – don’t worry, he’ll get the information when he needs it. For now go order him a hooide and celebrate the end of the process as a family.

What do you expect? Now the school is waiting for the May 1 deadline before following up with committed students. Nevertheless, your son may want to be proactively looking up the school website for information such as schedules for orientation, registration, dorm application, etc. He certainly does not want to miss the deadlines. Some schools even have the dorm deposit or application way ahead of decision date. Some schools have orientation throughout the summer. Earlier orientation may be helpful in class scheduling in some cases. Besides the school website, do look at the subforum for that school at collegeconidential too. You will find out a lot of information there and he may post questions there too.

He may get a package in the mail with a window sticker and t shirt. But everything else will start up in earnest after the college has seen off this year’s seniors.

Did he get a confirmation that the transaction went through? If so, he just needs to wait. If I remember correctly, D’s school sent an invitation to sign up for orientation a few days later. It took a bit longer than that for housing info because it was coming from a different office.

Everywhere my daughter was accepted sent info about orientation and housing pretty much upon acceptance.

I feel your pain. Ok not pain but…deflation.

My son committed on Saturday, charge shows pending with my bank, I took a screen shot where the portal shows enrolled.

Nary an email other than the payment confirmation and…we now have some portal issues.

Hoping it’s a weekend thing but clearly systems haven’t updated, I received an email tonight telling me why he should enroll.

Planning a portal call in the am, June orientation and rising flight costs means I need the kid signed up for the session that works now.

It’s all good! He got the “welcome to the family” email this morning. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I guess I thought whatever it was would be automatically triggered by his deposit. That said, I also wonder if I haven’t been just–emotionally exhausted by this whole nailing biting YEAR of traveling and essay-prodding and waiting and wondering, and mind changing…and it just seemed like a really quiet way for things to end. This is my eldest child–need I say more?

@Basbleu So which did your S choose? Lawrence or Earlham? My D committed recently, too, to Willamette, and we haven’t received anything other than an email verifying that the deposit has been received. I’m not worried though. I figure A) the admissions office is in the throes of admitted students days, admission commitments, and spring tours for HS juniors and B) it says right on their website we’ll hear from them after May 1.
