I usually try to stay positive about USC, but one move by the Math department/whoever is in charge of scheduling really has me fuming.

During the web registration period, I signed up for Math-310 Business Statistics class with Professor Radchenko in the 4:00-5:50 PM slot on Mondays and Wednesdays. I ended up having to shuffle around the rest of my schedule to register in this class, as he is one of the few competent Math-310 professors. Sometime recently, without warning or notice, the Math department scrambled the professors into new timeslots. After having signed up specifically for Radchenko, I am now stuck with professor with a poor reputation (Fygenson).

Every single one of the rest of the classes is full, so I cannot change my class. This brings up another question, why is there not a single slot open to register?

I am furious at the Math department for their incompetence in switching the professors around after students have already registered. Is this was nearly $40,000 tuition pays for?

I will e-mail the Daily Trojan, but during the summer they are understandably on a reduced schedule. Likewise, I imagine an angry e-mail to the Math Department will fall on deaf ears. Don't know if I have any other recourse.

Sorry, but huh? I've never heard of "math 310", and in any case, the math department is horribly slow about posting professors to the schedule of classes - last I checked, they haven't done so for this fall yet anyways.

It is essentially a math class (statistics) so I mistakingly attributed it to the Math department. Further confusing is that Business students are required to take two semesters of statistics - one with the Math department and the other with the business department.

310 is the business one. Wish I could change the title but that's evidently not allowed. Still infuriated at whoever is responsible.

Sounds very frustrating, sfgiants. I hope something comes of your complaints to the department and/or Daily Trojan. If not, feel free to rant more here. :) Good luck.

Well at least you found out the teacher change rather early. I walked into BUAD 306 with the hope that I would enjoy the finance prof I chose, only to be surprised when another teacher was there....worst experience ever. And since everything moves to D-courses the first day, I couldn't easily switch into another class without actually attending that class and getting an add slip. I'd say just keep looking throughout the summer and hope that someone drops so you can add the class.
I'm pretty sure they are allowed to change profs around as much as they like...it's just not very convenient for us students. This is especially common in the business school because they are trying to cut down in class sizes, so they need to hire more teachers.
Honestly, I think that most of the required business courses need a lot of changes. It doesn't make sense that you have to wait until electives to get great courses. And everyone knows classes like BUAD 304 are useless and not at all like other business courses. You would think by now they would have realized this and changed the curriculum to reflect something worthwhile.

I suspect classes are often changed at the request of the professors as well. Son had an engineering professor switch he was not happy about but the professor had a research project due so cut back his teaching a little.

Thanks for the understanding. Looks like they also did the same with Operations Management (another class I'm taking). ugh, very very frustrating...
