Could the people who got the email please post their stats?

If you don’t mind!

has anyone else received notification about the MSP scholarship?

pine95apple:

3.9 GPA and 29 ACT
I’m an out-of-state student. Also, MSP definitely takes other factors into consideration far more than numbers. However, average reported ACT was 27-32 for students who received MSP.

Do you think it’s a bad sign if we are not notified within a few days of January 31?

I don’t think so. According to an email received from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), notifications will begin on January 31 and continue through March 31.

Do you know if you can combine MSP with the National Buckeye or Provost? I know you can to it up to the cost
of an OSU education but I don’t know if that means full cost of attendance (room and board, etc) or full tuition.

On the OSU scholarships website it is indicated that MSP scholarships replace all other university merit awards a student may have been offered.

priya944 - The Prominence and Excellence are full tuition (out of state/instate). The Distinction includes room & board, books, and misc expenses.

I think that the key to getting the Morrill is the essay…not so much the stats. Applicants need to show that they are not only diverse but that they have actually done something to contribute to whatever it is that makes them diverse. (think community outreach, mentoring, activism and involvement) this is an incredible scholarship and the effort to write an outstanding essay is well worth it. Think outside of the box and sell yourself and what you have to offer. Originality counts. Most essay takes will be focused on race and ethnicity but diversity can be just about anything. As I mentioned, my d got it and she is a white girl from nj. Her essay was about getting diagnosed with type one diabetes…it was an awesome essay and obviously caught their attention. Think about what makes you unique and go for it! 500 recipients out of 2000 are pretty good odds! Getting that email that you were chosen will make you feel like you have hit the lottery…so awesome! Good luck!

Does anyone know if the Morrill Scholars Program considers financial need, and requires the FAFSA? Or is it solely based on diversity, essay and scores/GPA? Our d applied but we weren’t clear if FAFSA form was required so we completed it anyway.

allycondoli - It is based solely on your essay/diversity. It does not take your financial need into consideration. FAFSA is not required. I received the scholarship a few days ago. Good luck!

BK1349: Good to know. Thank you for the info. And congratulations on the scholarship! That’s a great way to start the year. :)

Does anyone have an idea when and how OSU decides whether recipients of the Prominence or Eminence full-tuition scholarships are awarded the full-ride Distinction scholarship? Are there more essays, or interviews, when is the decision made???

Has anyone else heard if they received the MSP scholarship? This waiting game is awful!!!

Nothing yet, but anxiously waiting.

My D received a second email with her name on it (first email did not include her name) exact same email except the first one said she would be moving on to the next step to be considered for Distinction. This second email only indicates that she received the Prominence award with no mention of being considered for Distinction. I guess the first email without her name was sent in error. Anyone else have this happen?

hismom2 - seems very strange. Have you considered calling to find out exactly what’s going on? If she is being considered for Distinction, you don’t want to miss that opportunity.

should i be worried if i still ahvent heard anything past the initial email?? ohio state is a serious option for me as of now i’ve received a nice scholarship but with my family situation this scholarship would do wonders!

We have til the end of March to receive a scholarship for full tuition. For Distinction, I think they email people for interviews around early to mid February.
