Morrill Scholars Program Class of 2020

@Chopinspiano congrats! Sounds like a fantastic essay!

@Chopinspiano if you don’t mind, could you post your stats?

also, did the email come to your email address that you linked to common app? not an ohio state affiliated email address right?

Congratulations @Chopinspiano ! I believe you are one of the first decisions to come out. Does anyone know if the ODI sends rejection letters? All I can think about is this scholarship!

@dirtysprite2 Yes but stats has nothing to do with this scholarship. I linked my OSU email address to my personal so I got it that way. If you set up an OSU email you will receive it that way I believe.

ACT: 31
Gpa: 3.79
EC’s: Many w/ prestigious music camps, publishings, 3 leadership positions

@al7753 Yes they do send rejection letters. I had asked in an email to them earlier.

@Chopinspiano when were you accepted to the university?

@zaychik Before Thanksgiving.

Completely shocked & feeling so blessed to have received the Prominence scholarship with further consideration for Distinction!!!

@freezycool - when did you apply ? Did you get notified via email ? Or did you get an email and your profile get updated as well.

@Chopinspiano @freezycool - congrats to you both

Congrats @freezycool!

@dreamed @jumbletumbles Thank you! I’m on some sort of high right now, I wasn’t expecting this at all- OSU is finally a real option for me! I’ll try to answer all questions I can think anyone would like to ask in one go! I bet you’re all worried. Deep breaths, everyone!

-When did I apply? My app was complete 10/15, Morrill stuff included.
-When was I accepted? The first batch of acceptances- before thanksgiving.
-When/how did I hear back from Morrill? Today, at 1:23 PM (PST) via e-mail. Subject line read, “The Ohio State University Morrill Scholarship Program”, and since it was SO not-congratulatory, and I thought it was going to be one of those “Thanks, but nope!” e-mails. I just looked at BuckeyeLink & couldn’t find anything about it.
-What are my stats? Not so high, haha. I thought everyone was kidding when they said this was mostly essay based. My SAT is a 2160 (1450 CR/M), which wasn’t the problem with my stats. My GPA is a 3.4 UW, though.

@freezycool Hey do you mind posting the message that says you’re being considered for distinction? CONGRATS BY THE WAY!!!

@Tyger97 Congrats to you as well!

@freezycool
@Chopinspiano
@Tyger97

Are you all OOS ? What are the programs you had applied to? I am trying to see if there is any pattern. I got accepted in the 1st batch as well and have my FYE letter from OSU

(I want to @ everyone and say congrats, but I’m a lazy gal lol. So CONGRATS!! Go celebrate! I’m going to watch Netflix while studying for Stats as a reward :D!)

@Chopinspiano Sure thing! Here it is-

“Furthermore, based on the academic excellence and advocacy for diversity exemplified in your application, you are being considered for the Morrill Scholarship Program’s premier award, the Distinction Scholarship. This scholarship is equal to the value of the full-cost of attendance. You will be notified by January 29 if you are recommended for an on-campus interview. These interviews will take place March 4 – 5, 2016.”

(I’m seriously shocked. Academic excellence? What! Me? I’m just honored to have even been considered, honestly…)

@dreamed Public Health from California :slight_smile:

@dreamed Yes I’m OOS. I applied to Honors/Scholars but I’m pretty sure I ranked Scholars as my first choice and Neuroscience pre-med.

@dreamed Yes, I am out of state from North Carolina. My intended major is philosophy.

@Chopinspiano
@Tyger97
@freezycool

Thank you !

@jumbletumbles - seems to me that there is a pattern here at least for now, all OOS have received notification of MSP.

Or rather only OOS have received MSP notification so far.

@dreamed - yes, there does seem to be a general pattern even if the sampling size is tiny. It seems to be OSU’s m.o. now to go through OOS before handling IS students. Admissions in general as well. Hope they’re careful with that. Our state flagship might end up loosing a lot of love from their own backyard in their pursuit of ‘the other side of the fence.’ I know my son is feeling a serious lack of love or even like from them right now & they’re slipping down the ranking order because of it.

ETA: No disrespect for our OOS fellow applicants here! Just bemoaning the in-stater circumstances :slight_smile:
